While official ministry statements remained generalized, sources close to the development have confirmed to PakWheels that the entire shipment consists exclusively of BYD vehicles. This massive single-delivery influx, which includes Atto 2, Atto 3, and BYD Shark 6, officially marks the start of the brand’s aggressive market presence in Pakistan.

Understanding the Scale: The RoRo Strategy
For context, importing 2,000+ vehicles via standard containerized shipping would require hundreds of individual containers, extensive crane operations, and weeks of port clearance. By utilizing a specialized RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) carrier, the vehicles were simply driven off the ship’s built-in internal ramps directly onto the Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited (KGTML) dock.
This approach minimizes port dwell times, cuts logistical handling costs, and eliminates the risk of crane-related handling damage—critical for high-value electric vehicles.
Why Such a Large Bulk Shipment Now?
The sheer volume of this single delivery aligns perfectly with BYD’s structural timelines in the country. Partnered with Mega Motor Company (a subsidiary of Pakistan’s largest independent power producer, HUBCO), BYD has set up a massive foundational strategy:

Until local assembly begins, BYD might be seeding the market with CBU (Completely Built Up) imports. Local demand has reportedly outpaced initial internal projections by nearly 30%, necessitating large-volume shipments like this one to clear early-booking backlogs and establish a highly visible presence on Pakistani roads.

Simultaneously, HUBCO Green is setting up a nationwide EV charging network at major retail fuel stations and along motorways, aiming for seamless coverage from Karachi to Peshawar to accommodate the incoming fleet.
