Pakistanis can Now Order World’s Cheapest Electric Car

A great news for hybrid car enthusiasts in Pakistan, as they can now order World’s Cheapest electric car online. Pakistanis can import the China-made Changli Nameca car through Alibaba. A golf cart-sized vehicle is definitely worthy of  its price. You can get this car for only $930 (PKR152,520), but this price is without a battery pack. To get the pack, you will need to pay $1200 (PKR196,800), which we think is not bad at all in this price range. Furthermore, it is an excellent deal for local consumers as the government slashed 25-50% customs duty on electric cars last year.

Exterior:

The car has a colorful exterior with numerous company stickers in Chinese language. In the first look, it looks like a toy car for children. Changli is a small 2-door, a 3-seater vehicle with almost all the facilities of a modern vehicle. As manufactures have not made this car for leisure, hence, they have not given much consideration to design and dynamics. The dimensions of this car are 2500×1500×1800 millimetres with a wheelbase of 1480mm.

The vehicle has a set of aluminum wheels. It comes in red color originally, but you can order it in a customized shade. The car has rear and front end guards and LED-fitted rooftop rack. Although the electric vehicle does not have fog lamps but its headlights come with sporty-beam and look very trendy and stylish. The company’s logo is embedded on its front grill. Maybe, the best and rather astonishing aspect of this car is its metal body, along with chromed door handles. At this meager price, the makers could have made this whole vehicle with plastic, but surprisingly, they chose metal.

The whole exterior of the car is painted including under-body. This paint job ensures no rust on body of the vehicle. The windows of the car are sliding and can be easily moved as pleased.

Interior:

Although Changli looks small from outside but it has a spacious interior. The steering wheel is a copy of Ford Steeles with a good rubbery feeling. The quality of dashboard is rather poor, but it stays where it supposed to stay, which we think is an excellent bargain in this price. The dual-tone faux-leather seats also give a good feel of the interior. However, seat covering has been done poorly. The gear shift is also somewhat cranky, which is not its plus point. The car also has an electronic speedometer, which shows voltage meter, odometer and battery power. Furthermore, it has a rear view camera, which is itself an achievement in such a cheap car.

Features:

The car’s Coilover three-link suspension is very similar to modern Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series or modern Suzuki Jimny. It has no front brakes as it comes with rear drum brakes. Unexpectedly, Changli has a rooftop fan and electric heater. The power electronics of the vehicle, including charger wires, batteries, pedal and motor, are packed on a shelf under the rear load floor. The tray also has a controller, which turns pedal input into a motor output. Moreover, there is an AC-DC converter on that shelf, which converts 42-72 volt inputs into 12-volt outputs. Under the driver seat, there are five 12-volt lead-acid batteries wired in a series.

Engine Power and Performance:

Changli’s engine generates 1.1 horsepower, which can hit a maximum speed of 30-35 kilometers per hour. The car reaches its maximum charging in 6-7 hours, and one-time charging can cover around 100 kilometers with a climbing ability of 30 degrees. Another major disadvantage of the vehicle is, it has no safety features and it is not passed through crash testing.

Final Verdict:

All in all, this car is for hybrid vehicle lovers who do not like to drive at high speed. Its biggest positive is its price. At this price, it is tough to find a brand new car that is also environmentally friendly. The whole outlook of this vehicle can be problematic for you if you like cars in one color. Furthermore, the makers have certainly put effort into making this car by making the whole exterior of metal and giving a spacious interior. It is also good news for Pakistani consumers as the government has started to establish electric car charging points in the country.
