Petrol Price Increased By Rs. 8.36 For Next Fortnight
The Government of Pakistan has announced a fresh hike in the prices of petroleum products, which has come into effect immediately. The increase is expected to put additional financial pressure on the general public, especially as inflation continues to affect households across the country.
New Petrol Price
According to the official notification, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs. 8.36 per liter, taking it to Rs. 266.79 per liter. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has gone up by Rs. 10.39 per liter, bringing the new rate to Rs. 272.98 per liter.
These revised prices are applicable right away, meaning there is no grace period for consumers or transporters to adjust.
The Impact
This increase in fuel prices is likely to have far-reaching consequences for the general public. Higher fuel costs translate into increased transportation expenses, which often result in a rise in the prices of everyday goods—especially food, groceries, and other essentials.
For the average Pakistani, particularly those from lower and middle-income groups, this price hike adds to the already mounting financial pressure. Public transport fares may also rise, affecting commuters and students alike.
In a time when inflation is already a serious concern, the sudden increase in petrol and diesel prices will be difficult for many to absorb. As fuel is a fundamental part of the supply chain and daily mobility, its cost directly impacts the overall economy. The government may need to consider relief measures or targeted subsidies to help mitigate the effects on the most vulnerable segments of society.
