Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime wing has caught new scandal of petrol pumps in Lahore. According to media reports, FIA raided multiple petrol stations in the city and caught them stealing and looting the consumers through the latest technology. During its raids, the investigation agency discovered that different petrol pumps were short-measuring the fuel.

Talking to the media, FIA Deputy Director Asif Iqbal Chaudhry said these pumps were short measuring through remote-controlled electronic devices. FIA got an anonymous tip, raided these stations and arrested the workers involved in this fraud.

How the Scam Works

“The device would measure one liter on either 800ml, 850ml, or 900ml,” Chaudhry shared the details, adding FIA raided four pumps, and all four of them were involved in this crime.

As per the details, these pumps would switched the devices off during a raid. “In some cases, the owner was involved, while in some cases only the manage and the staff were involved in this scam,” Chaudhry said, adding that FIA has also identified the individuals who install these devices at the petrol pumps.

FIA has registered cases against the culprits, and an investigation is underway.

This is a serious issue, especially for consumers who are already getting record-high fuel after the recent hike by the government. This weekend, the government increased the petrol and diesel prices by Rs. 35/liter after the US dollar reached from PKR 230 to Rs. 255 in a single day.

In his announcement regarding the petrol price hike, Ishaq Dar also said that the prices of kerosene oil and light diesel oil have been increased by Rs18. After the removal of the unofficial cap on the dollar, the Pakistani rupee hit a historic low against the dollar, leading to this inflation.
