Pakistan’s auto industry is gradually moving toward electrification, with hybrids leading the charge. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are gaining traction for offering the flexibility of a petrol engine along with the efficiency of electric driving.

Unlike regular hybrids, PHEVs can be charged externally and provide a longer all-electric range, making them ideal for both city commutes and longer trips. In recent years, a few PHEVs have been officially introduced to the market, marking significant steps toward cleaner mobility. Let’s take a look at the prominent models launched so far.

1. MG HS PHEV

MG Motors was among the first brands to launch a plug-in hybrid SUV in Pakistan with the HS PHEV. Initially offered as a CBU import, the vehicle quickly gained popularity for its blend of performance and efficiency.

To make it more accessible, MG introduced the locally assembled (CKD) version in October 2024, marking a major milestone for the company and for Pakistan’s PHEV market.

Its arrival signaled a growing acceptance of PHEV technology in the country, while also positioning Haval as a strong contender in the premium hybrid SUV category.

Although only a few PHEVs have officially launched in Pakistan so far, several manufacturers are preparing to enter the market with new models.

Toyota has already made waves with its Corolla Cross Hybrid (an HEV rather than a PHEV), while Sazgar has confirmed that it will introduce the Tank-500 hi4-T PHEV SUV and Cannon Alpha hi4-T PHEV pickup by early 2026. These upcoming vehicles suggest that the market is gradually opening up, with a wider range of options on the horizon.
