Last week, we had an exciting event for our local auto market. The 4th generation Suzuki Swift is here with all the quirks. Pak Suzuki has made history by locally assembling the most feature-rich Pakistani Swift model ever.

We have done detailed comparisons of the new Swift with the three sedans of the same segment: Yaris, City, and Alsvin. It’s time to see what other choices we have at the price of the new Swift. First up, we have the Proton Saga Ace in the price of Swift GL Manual. Let’s compare the two options and see which one’s better.  Swift vs Saga, here we go.

Dimensions

Saga is 171 inches long, 67 inches wide, and 59 inches tall. Swift is 151 inches long, 68 inches wide, and 60 inches tall. The two cars have the same width and height. But Saga being a sedan, is longer than Swift by 20 inches.

Engine & Transmission

Saga Ace comes with a 1299cc inline-4 DOHC VVT engine that produces 95 horsepower and 120 Nm of torque. Swift GL comes with a 1197cc K-Series VVT engine that produces 81 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque. Saga Ace has a Sports Mode; the base Swift variant does not.

Transmission-wise, Saga Ace has a 4-speed automatic gearbox, whereas Swift GL has a 5-speed manual transmission. Clearly, Saga Ace has a more powerful engine than Swift GL M/T.

Exterior

Here are the exterior similarities. Both cars have halogen headlights, LED DRLs, power-adjustable side view mirrors, and keyless entry. Both miss out on fog lamps, though.

For the differences, Swift comes with 16-inch alloy wheels with an optional spare wheel, whereas Saga has 15-inch alloy wheels with a spare steel wheel. Swift has a rear wiper, and Saga Ace has a remote trunk release feature.

Looks-wise, the new Swift is sportier than Saga.

Interior

Saga Aca has a Multi-Information Display (MID), Swift GL M/T does not. Power steering in both cars has tilt adjustment; Saga’s steering also has media control buttons. The driver’s seat is height adjustable in Saga Ace, not in Swift GL M/T.

Both cars have a manual air conditioning system. Swift GL M/T has a 9-inch infotainment screen, whereas Saga Ace has a 7-inch infotainment screen. Saga has ISOFIX child seat anchors as a plus.

Saga Ace has more features than Swift GL M/T, but the latter’s interior design is more stylish and modern.

Safety

Saga Ace is safer than Swift GL M/T, without a doubt. Both cars have ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), reverse camera, and two airbags. Saga Ace has Hill Start Assist, Traction Control, Brake Assist, and parking sensors.

Price

Since it’s a price comparison, we have almost the same price tags for both cars. Suzuki Swift GL M/T costs Rs. 2,499,000. Proton Saga Ace costs Rs. 2,399,000.

For the above prices, we think Swift GL Manual would be a better choice than Saga Ace A/T. Then again, it’s up to the buyer’s personal preference, whether they want a sedan or a hatchback. Swift vs Saga, which one do you prefer? We’d love to know.

This Saga is sure a good offer, and maybe unbeatable as being the best in quality price ratio.

The only issue with Proton Saga is its delivery date.
