Punjab CM Urges Drivers to Protect Pedestrians, Follow Traffic Laws

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has urged drivers across the province to prioritise pedestrian safety and strictly follow traffic laws on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

She called on motorists to avoid using mobile phones, observe speed limits, and “drive with care at all times” to help reduce pedestrian-related accidents and fatalities. The chief minister noted that the government has already implemented stricter fines, introduced harsher penalties for violations, and increased vehicle fitness checks to curb unsafe driving practices.

Maryam Nawaz stressed the need to build a “culture of responsible behaviour” on the roads, reminding citizens that traffic rules protect everyone — especially vulnerable road users such as pedestrians.

She also directed traffic authorities to intensify enforcement and awareness campaigns in high-risk urban areas, particularly as winter approaches and fog and reduced visibility are expected.

Commuters and drivers across Lahore and other major cities responded positively to the message, acknowledging that consistent vigilance is essential for safer roads.
