Rule 47(3) of the Punjab Motor Vehicles Rules, 1969 has been changed.
If someone fails to report the change of vehicle ownership within the required time, they must pay an extra fee in addition to the standard prescribed fee.
The penalty now depends on how late the reporting is:
For Motorcycles/Scooters
-
31–60 days late: Rs. 1,000
-
61–90 days late: Rs. 2,000
-
91–120 days late: Rs. 4,000
For All Other Vehicles (cars, jeeps, etc.)
-
31–60 days late: Rs. 10,000
-
61–90 days late: Rs. 20,000
-
91–120 days late: Rs. 30,000
Verdict: This notification increases late transfer penalties for motorcycles and other vehicles, making it costlier if you delay reporting the ownership change beyond 30 days.
