Punjab To Allow Re-Registration of Vehicles from Other Provinces

Punjab’s DG Excise, Omar Sher Chatha, announced in an interview that vehicles registered in other provinces or under federal registration can now be transferred and re-registered in Punjab with a new number plate.

Owners will be able to register their vehicles in Punjab by paying a nominal city transfer fee. This step allows vehicles already operating in Punjab to contribute to local taxes rather than continue paying token taxes or transfer fees elsewhere.

The process requires obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the original province or federal authority, after which the vehicle can receive a new registration number in Punjab.

Chatha stated that for owners, it will increase the resale value of their vehicles. He further added that the Punjab government is collaborating with other provincial governments and making a database with the help of PITB, and the system is ready, and re-registration will be available this month across the province.

This move is expected to simplify registration for thousands of vehicles running in Punjab but registered in other provinces and ensure fair contribution to Punjab’s road and transport infrastructure.
