Bad news for the citizens of Punjab, the provincial government has significantly increased the fines imposed on all kinds of traffic violations. The Punjab government has covered all drivers in the new penalties, passenger and commercial vehicle drivers, motorcyclists, and rickshaw drivers. In addition to the challan fees, the government has also made it mandatory for the owners of vehicles older than five years to obtain a vehicle fitness certificate. Here are the details.

Fines for Motorcyclists

For motorcyclists, the fine has been increased to Rs300 or Rs400 depending upon the violation.

The fine for riding a motorcycle without a helmet will be up to Rs600 instead of just Rs200.

The fine for speeding, wrong parking, driving in the opposite lane, and riding a motorcycle without lights at night will now be Rs400, not Rs200.

Underage motorcyclists will be charged with a fine of Rs500, while those without valid driving licenses will be fined Rs600.

Motorcycles with fake number plates will be fined up to Rs1,000.

Fines for Rickshaw Drivers

The fine for rickshaw drivers has been increased from Rs250 to Rs500.

Fines for Vehicle Drivers

For passenger and commercial vehicle drivers, the fines for driving without a seat belt, using a mobile phone while driving, and driving without a valid driving license have been raised from Rs500 to Rs750.

Vehicles using pressure horns or driving on the wrong side of the road will be fined Rs1,000.

The fine for passenger and commercial vehicles with fake number plates is Rs2,000.

The Punjab Government has taken this severe action to ensure the safety of citizens on the roads. Hopefully, this will keep the drivers in check and follow the traffic rules, which we all should naturally do. But looks like the police have no other way to make us but to impose heavy challan fees.
