During the meeting, the chief secretary instructed deputy commissioners to locate suitable areas for charging stations and bus depots within their jurisdictions. He highlighted that the project’s goal, reflecting the chief minister’s vision, is to offer citizens comfortable, modern, and internationally-standard transportation services. Additionally, Zaman stressed initiating a vigorous drive to address the issue of overloaded public vehicles, enhancing passenger safety.
Electric Bus Service in Lahore
Punjab government first started the electric bus program in Lahore in February, 2025. The initial phase included 27 buses but government said to add 500 more vehicles to the fleet till the August. The fare of these buses is fixed at Rs. 20 and Maryam Nawaz said that these buses include Free WiFi and mobile charging system for passenger’s convinience. Now, after the succesfull service in Lahore, Punjab government is spreading this service across the Punjab.
Punjab’s Push For Environment Protection
It seems like Punjab Government is giving a strong focus towards clean and environment friendly vehicles and trasnportation system. This push for sustainable transport is part of a broader strategy that also included the rollout of a Vehicle Emission Testing program in May 2025. The main aim of this project is to reduce the smog and improve the AQI index which peaks at October- November and becomes hazardous in Lahore. Together, these efforts underline the administration’s commitment to reducing pollution from internal combustion vehicles and creating a cleaner urban environment.
