Range Rover has revealed the first prototype images of its upcoming GT, a low-slung electric grand tourer that will become the fifth model in the brand’s lineup.
The heavily camouflaged prototype marks a clear departure from Range Rover’s traditional upright SUV design. It features a long bonnet, lower roofline, wide stance and fastback-style rear, giving it proportions closer to a raised luxury saloon than a conventional SUV.
A New Direction for Range Rover
The company says the GT is intended to combine long-distance refinement with the all-terrain capability associated with the Range Rover name.
The prototype retains familiar design elements, including slim headlights, clean body surfacing and large wheels, but its lower silhouette makes it the brand’s most car-like model to date.
The camouflage pattern is inspired by the landscape around JLR’s Gaydon design and engineering center, according to the automaker.
Minimalist Interior Revealed
Range Rover has also released images of the production-intent cabin.
The interior features a slim digital instrument display, a large central touchscreen, and a dashboard with very few physical controls. A panoramic glass roof, textile-style materials, and concealed air vents give the cabin a cleaner, more lounge-like appearance.
Rear-seat images show a spacious cabin with a large center console and an integrated control screen, suggesting that passenger comfort will be a major part of the GT’s positioning.
Built on a New Electric Platform
The Range Rover GT will use JLR’s new Electric Modular Architecture and launch with a fully electric powertrain.
Range Rover has not yet announced the battery capacity, motor output, driving range, charging speed or pricing. The company says prototypes are undergoing final testing, with further details expected closer to the production model’s unveiling.
The GT will sit alongside the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar and Evoque, expanding the brand beyond its established SUV territory.
The new model also arrives as luxury carmakers face growing pressure to develop distinctive electric vehicles without weakening the identity of their most valuable brands. For Range Rover, the GT is an attempt to enter that space without building another conventional SUV, or quite admitting that it has created a high-riding electric saloon.
