Range Rover-Inspired XPeng GX SUV Revealed with Steer-by-Wire

XPeng GX, the latest flagship SUV from Chinese EV maker XPeng, has been revealed with a striking Range Rover-inspired design, advanced steer-by-wire technology, and dual powertrain options.

This six-seat luxury crossover promises over 1,000 km range in its EREV version, making it a strong contender in the premium family EV market for buyers worldwide seeking high-tech, long-range alternatives to traditional luxury SUVs.

Striking Design Inspired by Range Rover

XPeng unveiled the GX’s exterior on February 5, 2026, revealing a full-size body measuring 5,265 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,800 mm tall on a 3,115 mm wheelbase.

Key highlights include slanted pillars, a floating roof, retractable door handles, and a split tailgate, clear homages to the iconic Range Rover.

These renders place the GX in dramatic African savanna scenes, emphasizing its adventurous luxury appeal.

Advanced Powertrains: BEV and EREV Options

Powertrain choices include BEV (pure electric) variants, RWD with 270 kW or AWD up to 430 kW (577 hp), and an EREV extended-range model with a 1.5L turbo engine (110 kW) charging a 63.3 kWh LFP battery for 320 km pure EV range and over 1,000 km combined.

Cutting-Edge Tech: Steer-by-Wire and Level 4 Autonomy

Built on the SEPA 3.0 architecture, the GX features innovative tech like steer-by-wire (no mechanical linkage for precise, adaptable handling), rear-wheel steering for tighter maneuvers, AI-powered chassis, and 5C ultra-fast charging. It ditches roof-mounted LiDAR for a vision-based system.

XPeng is actively testing Level 4 autonomous driving on camouflaged GX prototypes in Guangzhou, powered by four Turing AI chips (>3,000 TOPS computing). This could enable hands-off driving in defined conditions.

The full debut is slated for the Beijing Auto Show in late April 2026, with China launch soon after.
