Your Samsung Can Now Lock, Unlock And Start Your Toyota

943

Samsung has announced a significant expansion of its digital ecosystem, integrating its “Digital Key” feature within Samsung Wallet for select Toyota models.

This collaboration allows owners of compatible Toyota vehicles to lock, unlock, and start their cars using only their Galaxy smartphones, marking a shift away from traditional physical keys toward a more integrated mobile experience.

Enhanced Convenience

The new feature utilizes Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology and Near Field Communication (NFC) to ensure a seamless connection between the smartphone and the vehicle.

For Toyota owners, this means the Samsung Wallet now acts as a secure, all-in-one repository for payment cards, identification, and now, vehicle access.

The digital key can also be shared with family or friends via the app, allowing owners to grant temporary or permanent access to their vehicle remotely.

Security and Compatibility

Security remains a primary focus for this rollout. The digital keys are stored in the Samsung Galaxy’s “Embedded Secure Element,” a dedicated chip designed to protect sensitive data against hardware-level attacks.

This ensures that the digital key is as secure, if not more so, than a physical key.

Initially, this feature is rolling out to select Toyota models in specific regions, starting with South Korea. However, Samsung and Toyota have indicated plans for a broader international release.

Impact on the Pakistani Auto Market

While the digital key feature is currently launching in global markets, its implications for the Pakistani automotive landscape are noteworthy. As Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) continues to modernize its local lineup with hybrid models like the Corolla Cross, the demand for high-tech features is increasing.

While local infrastructure and vehicle specifications often lag behind global releases, the introduction of Samsung’s digital key technology sets a new benchmark for what Pakistani consumers might expect in future premium variants or imported Toyota units.
