On Friday, the Sindh government announced a ban on pillion riding to avoid any mishaps during the Muharram processions.

The ban will be effective from 5th August (6 Muharram) till 10th August (12 Muharram), according to the Sindh Home Department. There are a few exceptions to this ban. These exceptions include children, women, the elderly, persons with disabilities, journalists, and security institution personnel.

The ban has been placed under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and all violators will be fined. The notification also stated, “…the Government of Sindh is satisfied that in order to maintain law and order situation throughout the province of Sindh and to avoid any untoward incident/mishap, it is necessary to take immediate measures,”.
