KARACHI — The Sindh Police is set to expand its “faceless” electronic ticketing system beyond Karachi, aiming to modernize traffic enforcement across the province.
During a review meeting at the Central Police Office, IGP Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon directed senior officials, including divisional Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), to prepare for the system’s rollout to other districts.
Preparation for Expansion
The DIG IT will assess the technical infrastructure needed for the expansion, such as cameras, storage capacity, and internet connectivity, along urban roads and highways. Meanwhile, DIG Traffic Karachi will collaborate with divisional DIGs to implement the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS) and establish facilitation centers in each district.
Leveraging Technology for Enforcement
As part of the rollout, the police will use both ground-based and drone-mounted scanners to detect parking violations. Once districts are prepared and staff trained, the e-challan system will be officially launched outside Karachi.
Impact of E-Challan in Karachi
So far in Karachi, over 23,000 citizens have visited facilitation centers, with fewer than 200 challans disputed. Approximately 90% of tickets were waived after verification. Traffic police have collected Rs 25 million in fines from around 4,000 cases, highlighting the system’s effectiveness.
A Step Towards Digital Traffic Management
The expansion of the e-ticketing system is a key part of Sindh’s effort to modernize traffic enforcement. This initiative aims to streamline the challan process, reduce human involvement, and enhance the efficiency of issuing traffic fines across the province.
