Sleep Kills! Three Killed on M-4 Due to Drowsiness
A fatal road crash took place near Khanewal on the M-4 Motorway. According to officials, a car collided with a Mazda truck after the car driver reportedly dozed off at the wheel. Three people died in the collision.
Official statements
Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed stated that the collision occurred due to the driver’s sudden drowsiness. He confirmed three fatalities and shared that the deceased were shifted to DHQ Khanewal.
Authorities cleared the wreckage and reopened the motorway after initial checks, restoring traffic flow on the M-4.
Preventing Drowsy Driving Accidents
Fatigue-related accidents, like the one that occurred today, are unfortunately not uncommon. A study of ResearchGate shows that fatigue is responsible for 54% of fatal accidents on Pakistan’s motorways. The study found that drowsiness is even more hazardous on high-speed motorways compared to slower roads, such as the GT road.
Experts warn that even brief moments of tiredness behind the wheel can lead to deadly crashes, particularly on fast-moving roads. To prevent such accidents, drivers are encouraged to take regular breaks, switch drivers during long trips, and use designated service areas to rest and stay alert.
