Comparing Stonic EX, Corolla S.E & Civic 1.8L

As we all know that KIA Stonic is the new entrant in the local market, and KIA Lucky Motors has launched it in two variants, i.e., EX and EX+. However, in this article, we will compare KIA Stonic EX with Toyota Corolla 1.6X Special Edition (SE) and Honda Civic 1.8L i-VTEC. The reasons behind this comparison are the similar price range and the fact that these are lower/base variants of these cars.

So, without any further delay, here is the comparison.

Dimensions

KIA Stonic is 4140mm Long, 1760mm Wide and 1500mm High with 2580mm Wheelbase. Meanwhile, Corolla is 4620mm Long, 1775mm Wide and 1475mm High with a 2700 Wheelbase, and Civic has 4630mm Length, 1799mm Width and 1433mm Height with 2700mm Wheelbase.

Lastly, the Ground Clearance of the Stonic is 165mm, compared to 175mm in Corolla and 153mm in Civic. The numbers show that Corolla and Civic are wider and longer; however, Stonic is higher in comparison. Meanwhile, Civic has the lowest Ground Clearance among these vehicles.

Engine and Transmission 

KIA offers a 1.4L MPI engine in Stonic that produces 98hp and 132Nm of Torque, compared to a 1.6L SFI engine in Corolla with 120hp and 154Nm of Torque and Civic’s 1.8L PFI engine with 138hp and 169Nm of Torque. This clearly shows that Stonic is much smaller in engine, horsepower and Torque.

Now let’s talk about Transmission; Stonic has a 6-Speed Automatic, Corolla has a 4-Speed Automatic, and Civic has a CVT one, giving the last one an edge over the first two. 

Exterior

Stonic EX comes with Bi-Function Projection Halogen Headlights against Corolla’s LED Projection, Projector Halogen in Civic. Moreover, Rear Lamps in Stonic are Halogen, while Corolla and Civic have LED ones,  while all three have LED DRLs.

The Fog Lamps in Stonic are Halogen, while Corolla and Civic don’t offer them. On the side of the car, you will see 15-inch Alloy Wheels in Stonic, compared to 16-inch Alloys in Corolla and 16-inch Steel with Plastic Cover Wheels in Civic. All three offer Steel Spare Tyres.

Interior

All three offer Tilt and Telescopic Steering Wheel, while Stonic and Corolla offer Media Buttons on them. Meanwhile, EX comes with a 3.5-inch TFT against 2.2-inch TFT in Corolla and a full-colour one in Civic. The Infotainment Touchscreen in Stonic is 8-inch Floating, 9-inch Touchscreen in Corolla and Integrated Audio in Civic.

If we compare the Seat material, all three offer Fabric in their cars, along with Manual Driver Seat Height Adjustment.

Comfort 

All three offer Auto Air Condition, while none of them offers Parking Sensors. Meanwhile, there is no Cruise Control in Stonic and Corolla, while Honda offers it in its sedan. The vehicles by Toyota and Honda come with Push start, while Stonic doesn’t have it. The option of Rear Camera is only offered in Corolla and Immobilizer is present in all three.

Lastly, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is only offered in Stonic.

Safety 

Stonic offers 6 Airbags against 2 each in Corolla and Civic. All three offers Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Traction Control (TC) and five seatbelts.

Price 

KIA has launched Stonic EX with a price tag of Rs3,660,000, while the current rate of Corolla SE is Rs3,599,000 and the rate Honda Civic is Rs3,614,000. This means all three are quite similar in price range, making the competition tough among them.
