Suzuki Gixxer SF 150: Pakistani Vs Indian

1 1,492

Previously we shared a detailed review of the newly launched Suzuki Gixxer SF in Pakistan. In that, it was mentioned that Gixxer has been receiving a lot of praise around the world, especially in India mainly because of its price, which unlike Pakistan, is much lower. In this blog, we’ll compare these two motorbikes and explain their differences and similarities.

Before we start, I would also like to mention that Gixxer in India also comes in the naked version which shares similar specs and performance with SF; it has a more street fighter look. However, Pak Suzuki hasn’t disclosed any plans to launch that bike in Pakistan yet.

First of all, in Pakistan, Gixxer’s standard version of SF is available only. On the contrary, in India, there is a huge selection of variants to choose from. Gixxer’s variant in India which comes closest to the Pakistani Gixxer is called the Gixxer STD ABS.

Design:

In terms of design, both are similar with the exception of graphics. The fairing on this bike has been designed to give maximum wind protection to the rider, reducing turbulence and drag, thereby delivering great aerodynamic efficiency. This results in less wind drag and more increased downforce to increase high-speed stability. Gixxer SF is a treat to look, in short.

Engine & Performance:

The engine is the same in both the Pakistani and Indian variants – a 4-stroke single cylinder 154.9cc BS-IV engine capable of producing around 15HP which is not a monstrous figure but surely a respectable one for a 150cc bike. This 15HP allows Gixxer SF to reach 0-100kmh in around 15.4s. Though various tweaks made by Suzuki allows this bike to corner very well and reach a top speed of 122km/h.

Features & Technology:

And now to the most important bit of any bike. The price at which this bike is being offered here, Pak Suzuki should have made sure they were offering something which could justify its price and sadly the company failed. The bike we get has ABS (Single Channel), Carb-based Fuel Injection and self start as standard; however, in India, its a different story. First, the entry-level Gixer in India comes with electric as well as a kick start feature. Then comes the med spec STD ABS which gets ABS (Single Channel) along with the electric and kick start option; however, just like the entry model it uses a carburetor based injection system. We get these in the Pakistani variant too. Finally,  the SF Fi ABS, which has all the bells and whistles. It gets ABS (Dual Channel), EFI, Electric start with no kick start option and all the other basics including  7-step suspension adjustment, twin exhausts, stand alarm, AHO Headlight, LED tail lamp, fully digital speedometer, large front, and back disc brakes along with large-diameter Front Forks.

Final Verdict:

The cheapest Gixxer SF in India starts at INR 93,o00 (PKR 202,230), whereas the topline model with the EFI and dual-channel ABS comes at around INR 94,733 (PKR 206,000) which is hard to fathom since the same variant is being sold here for PKR 625,000. Not only the Indian version is miles ahead than the one we get here but also much cheaper.

Update:

Suzuki has unveiled the all-new 2019 Suzuki Gixxer for the Indian market.

2019 Suzuki Gixxer SF’s exterior now flows with the same new design language which is also seen on the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250. Suzuki has given its Gixxer lineup an all-new design language with mean looking bodywork, LED headlight and taillight along with updated chassis and a new split seat. The new 155cc Suzuki Gixxer SF can be bought in two glossy colours only – Glass Sparkle Black and a dual-tone colour in Metallic Sonic Silver with Glass Sparkle Black highlights.

The engine remains the same, 155 cc, single-cylinder, however, it generates less power, 13.9 bhp at 8000 rpm and 14 Nm of peak torque at 6000 rpm. The older generation Gixxer SF made marginally more power. This bike also uses the same 5-speed gearbox.

The new and updated chassis is heavily influenced by the new Suzuki Gixxer SF 250. However, it weighs 146 kg, which is 6 kg heavier than the older model. The overall dimensions of the bike have also changed. Suzuki managed to reduce its height, length and width, which should make it a great handler around the corners. But the wheelbase has increased by 10 mm which surely adds comfort and stability. And the new clip-on handlebars will also mean a sportier riding position than the older generation model.

The new Suzuki Gixxer SF has been launched at INR 1,09,870 (ex-showroom), which is around INR 8,000 more expensive than the older generation Suzuki Gixxer SF.

As noted in the article new model in Indian market gives lower power output as compared to outgoing model of Indian market. Any reason? Is it because of fuel quality or emissions laws?

India has some fuel quality and emissions standards e.g. Bharat-IV etc. Why not an article comparing fuel quality regulation and/or emissions regulations between the 2 countries?

The reason for lower output is not known yet. And its not due to fuel quality. And yes i will soon compare the fuel qualities in both countries. Thanks for the feedback.
