Road accident in Islamabad involved US embassy vehicle

In a road accident that occurred in the federal capital of Pakistan today was involving a US embassy vehicle which has killed a woman, according to the police.

According to the details, the accident took place at the Faisal Avenue Chowk of Islamabad, where the two vehicles collided. The US embassy vehicle was a Toyota Land Cruiser that collided with a private Suzuki Khyber car, which was coming from the other direction of the junction. According to the initial reports, one of the two vehicles broke the traffic signal, which resulted in a collision between them. The driver of the US embassy’s car was arrested by the police, and an FIR has also been registered in the Police station, Margalla.

A spokesman of Islamabad Police also informed that the driver of the US embassy car is a Pakistani citizen named Amjad Zaman, and strict action will be taken against the suspects of the crash in accordance with the law. The woman killed is identified as Nazia Bibi, who succumbed to the injuries. The injured were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital immediately. Apart from the dead, four others have also been reported as wounded, out of which a girl is reported in a critical condition.

Islamabad Police has also seized the US embassy vehicle at the spot; however, it is yet to be clear that if there were other people in that car. On the other hand, Usama Khaliq, the son of deceased Nazia Bibi, told that his family was traveling to their village Haripur to attend a funeral when the incident took place. Usama himself was not in the car but told the police that it was around 10 am in the morning when the car was hit by a white-colored Land Cruiser, which was coming from the F-10 sector towards the F-7 sector. He added that the vehicle was coming at an extremely high speed and was being driven carelessly. In Suzuki Khyber, Nazia Bibi was along with her husband, along with Usama’s cousin and his wife and two children.

Note here that it’s not the first time a US embassy vehicle is involved in an accident. There are several other incidents in the past, including the case of Raymond Davis that took place in 2011. The contractor of the Central Investigation Agency killed two Pakistani citizens when his car hit a motorbike in Lahore.
