Tesla Recalls 1.09Million Vehicles For Not Meeting Safety Standards
Tesla is going to recall 1.09million units of Model 3 (2017-2022), Model S (2021-2022), Model X (2021-2022), and Model Y (2020-2022). According to media details, these models don’t comply with the US Federal Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) because the power windows could not work properly and may pinch an occupant if any body part of that person gets in the way.
How was the Issue Found?
The company found this issue during production testing in August 2022. The engineers found that the automatic power window reversal system had “greater than expected variation in response to pitch detection.”
After the discovery, Tesla’s engineers formally began testing this problem in September 2022 and checked different models. During the testing, it was found that the pinch detection and retraction performance didn’t match the safety standard of FMVSS. However, there have been no reports of injuries due to this problem.
As per media, Tesla models will get an over-the-air update to fix the issue. Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has stated that a software update should not be called a “recall.” But the government authority has insisted that it is a recall. It is pertinent to mention that Tesla has faced multiple recalls this year.
Previous Recalls
Earlier this year, Tesla recalled Model X SUV due to an airbag issue. That recall affected over 7,000 units of that specific model. Meanwhile, an issue related to Boombox feature led to a recall of Model 3, Model Y, and Model S. The company fixed it with an over-the-air update. The Boombox feature allowed you to play music or sounds through the speakers for pedestrian warning sounds. However, the government authorities objected over playing some songs on the pedestrian warning sounds system.
Most of the issues and problems with Tesla models have been resolved with over-the-air software updates, and this time the company will do the same.
