This Ramazan, Let’s Try To Be A Responsible Road User
“HAPPY & BLESSED RAMAZAN “
First of all, we should all Thanks Allah for giving us one more opportunity to experience this Holy month. This month is the month of patience, giving, to be courteous and considerate to others. This month is also the month of discipline & a sense of responsibility, repentance and self-control.
Although all these MUST be exercised every month and every day and every minute of our life, it becomes way more important in this blessed month, which applies to every action in our daily lives. Unfortunately, we don’t experience and undertake all these requirements very important in this month being on the road. Every year more accidents and road rage is seen in these 30 days.
How to be Responsible?
Let’s try to be more responsible this year and going forward once the Ramazan is over. Let this month become a training session for all of us being on the road.
- Follow the rules of the road and respect all laws and regulations while you are driving.
- Drive attentive and fully aware of your surroundings. People get fatigued and get distracted. If you are feeling drowsy, STOP your vehicle and relax.
- Follow speed limits. Always plan your trips accordingly and with extra travel time in mind. It is a common sight that people drive rash during the last hour or so before iftar. It’s OK to be late for few minutes. You will not die if you are a little late for iftar, but you can for sure injure, kill anyone or hurt yourself by being careless. Don’t drive recklessly, as it can result in an unfortunate event/ accident.
- You can always keep a bottle of water, some dates/Khajoors or a small snack in your car, in case you feel like you might not reach your destination before the iftar, but rash driving is a BIG NO.
- The road visibility becomes low by iftar time due to changing light conditions/ dusk, so you should be very careful. Although headlights might not increase your visibility, Switch it ON to be seen by others sharing the road with you. Statistically, more accident happens in the last hour before the iftar.
- Tailgating/ driving too close to the vehicle in front is a typical issue on a daily basis, but in Ramazan, this behaviour has been seen more often as people are trying to make their way out of traffic. Please drive carefully and follow safe distance and follow lane discipline. Don’t switch lanes unsafe and illegally.
- Please, FOR GOD SAKE, don’t run a red light or take illegal or improper U-Turns. This is again a typical behaviour among our drivers just before iftar.
- Improper, illegal parking is also a big issue during Ramazan, which causes traffic congestion and blockage. Please be a sensible and responsible citizen and don’t create a traffic nightmare in this blessed and Holy month.
- Control your emotions, stay away from road rage. Be courteous and helpful to others. If someone is at fault, pass on a smile instead of indulging in a fight.
- If you are a pedestrian, there is a huge responsibility on you as well. Don’t cross the road in an unsafe and illegal manner.
Always drive defensively and expect the unexpected. Be respectful to other commuters and have a safe and wonderful Ramzan. Be Safe, Stay Well and Enjoy the blessings of this month.
