India To Get New Toyota Plant And 100,000 Units Per Year
While we in Pakistan are often checking the latest ‘Bumper-to-Bumper’ genuine ads or waiting for the next price hike notification, our neighbors are getting some massive news from the Japanese auto giant. Toyota Motor has just announced plans to set up a brand-new manufacturing plant in India, and the numbers are quite impressive.
According to recent reports from Reuters, Toyota is gearing up to significantly boost its production capacity by 2026.
Here is everything you need to know about this major move.
The Details: Another 100,000 Units!
Toyota is building a whole new facility. This will be their third plant in the country, and it’s expected to churn out 100,000 units annually.
For those keeping track of the local market, imagine adding that many Zero Meter cars to the roads every year! This expansion will increase Toyota’s total production capacity in India to over 400,000 units per year.
Why the Expansion?
It’s no secret that the demand for SUVs and Crossovers is skyrocketing globally. Toyota’s partnership with Suzuki (Maruti Suzuki in India) has been a game-changer, with shared models like the Grand Vitara and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder performing exceptionally well.
With this new plant, Toyota aims to:
Meet Growing Demand: The wait times for popular models are getting longer, and this plant will help slash those booking months.
Focus on Hybrid and Green Tech: Toyota is doubling down on its hybrid strategy, proving that the world isn’t ready to go full EV just yet, something we can definitely relate to in Pakistan, given our infrastructure.
Export Potential: This isn’t just for local consumption; India is becoming a major export hub for Toyota’s right-hand-drive markets.
A new plant usually means new models. Reports suggest that a new C-segment SUV is in the works, potentially sitting somewhere between the Corolla Cross and the Fortuner.
The PakWheels Take
Whenever we hear about such massive investments in the region, it’s a bittersweet moment for Pakistani enthusiasts.
Could we see some of these upcoming models make their way to Pakistan? Only time (and our economy) will tell. Until then, we’ll just have to keep dreaming of shorter delivery times and more Value for Money options.
