Toyota Updates the 2026 GR Corolla: Stronger Handling, Same Turbo Bite

The 2026 GR Corolla arrives with its signature 300 hp unchanged, but the real story lies in its grip and control. Toyota’s tweaks to body rigidity, cooling, and response turn this hot hatch into an even sharper weapon for the road and track — without losing its wild rally DNA.

Key Specs (at a glance)

Powertrain

This overpowered hatchback uses the same 1.6-liter G16E-GTS turbocharged three-cylinder engine, which produces a remarkable 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque. That output translates to roughly 186 horsepower per liter, an astonishing figure for such a small 1.6-liter engine.

A 6-speed manual remains standard, with an 8-speed automatic available. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via the GR-FOUR system, featuring Torsen limited-slip differentials.

Chassis and Handling

Engineers added about 46 feet of structural adhesive at the front and rear sections of the body. The change aims to boost rear grip and deliver more consistent steering through corners.

Cooling and Response

A secondary high-engine-speed intake duct helps reduce intake temperatures during high-speed driving, thereby maintaining the consistent performance of the 1.6-liter GR engine.

Moreover, this GR Corolla also gives you an active Sound Control that now augments engine note through the audio system, with selectable modes and the ability to switch it off.

Trims and Features

The GR Corolla will be offered in two grades:

Pricing

U.S. pricing starts at $47,160 (approximately Rs. 1.3 Cr) for the base manual model and an additional $2,000 (approximately Rs. 566,396) for the automatic model.
