Toyota Yaris Ativ 1.3L MT vs. Toyota Corolla GLi 1.3L MT: A brief comparison!

The company was all set for a soft launch of Yaris on 24th March 2020, but the lockdown across the country forced it to cancel that too. At this time, all the manufacturing facilities of automakers have been shut down, and the dealerships are also closed until there is any improvement in the Corona Virus situation in the country.

In the meanwhile, we access the all-new Yaris and compare its features with its competitors in the market. Its first competitor is 1.3-litre Corolla itself and then comes head to head with Honda City and Suzuki Ciaz. In this article, we will be comparing the specification and features of Toyota Yaris Ativ 1.3-litre MT variant with the old 1.3-litre MT Toyota Corolla GLi. Let’s have a look!

Engine & Performance:

Under the hood, Toyota Yaris Ativ has a 4-cylinder in-line 16-valve DOHC with dual VVT-I 1329 cc 1NR-FE engine with sequential multi-port fuel injection (SFI) system. It can generate a maximum output power of 98 hp at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 123 Nm at 4200 rpm. It’s mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

On the other hand, Toyota Corolla GLi 1.3-litre Manual is powered by a water-cooled 4-cylinder in-line 16-valve DOHC with VVT-I 2NZ-FE 1299 cc engine with sequential multi-port fuel injection (SFI) system. It produces a maximum output power of 84 hp at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 121 Nm at 4400 rpm. It’s mated to a 5-speed forward synchro-mesh manual transmission.

Braking & Suspension:

Toyota Yaris Ativ is incorporated with ventilated disc brakes at the front wheels and drum brakes at the rear side. For an enhanced braking experience, the automaker has also provided a Brake Assist (BA) system. The front suspension of Yaris GLi CVT is equipped with Mac Pherson Strut, whereas the rear suspension has a torsion beam.

Toyota Corolla GLi 1.3L, on the other hand, has ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid disc brakes at the rear wheels. The suspension of Toyota Corolla, however, is similar to the all-new Yaris.

Dimensions & Capacity:

The length and width of the Toyota Yaris Ativ are 4425 mm and 1730 mm, respectively. In terms of height, the car is 1475 mm tall. The wheelbase and minimum turning radius of the Toyota Yaris is 2550 mm and 5.1 meter. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 476 liters, whereas it comes with a fuel tank with up to 42 liters of fuel capacity.

In comparison to this, Toyota Corolla GLi 1.3L has a length of 4620 mm while its width and height are 1775 mm and 1475 mm, respectively. The wheelbase and minimum turning radius of the car is 2700 mm and 5.4 meter respectively. It has a luggage compartment capacity of 470 liters and has a comparatively larger 55-liter fuel tank.

Exterior:

Toyota Yaris Ativ is stylish and elegant in its outlook and resembles Corolla in many ways. At the front side, it has a 4-beam halogen lamp headlight while the daytime running lamp is missing in this particular variant. It has a partial chrome plating on the front radiator grille. There are no fog lamps in this variant of Yaris. It has body-colored outside door handles, and side-view mirrors with integrated side turn signals. The windshield has a green lamination, and the front windscreen has intermittent wipers. On the rear side, there is a short pole antenna. Underneath it, there is a rear chrome garnish between the rear combination lamps. For an elegant appearance, the automaker has provided with LED line guide in the rear lamps and a reflex reflector at the bottom end of the rear bumper. The standard tyre size offered by the company is 185/60 R15 with 15-inch aluminum-alloy rims.

The 1.3-liter GLi model of Toyota Corolla comes with a partial chrome front radiator grille with halogen headlamps. It also didn’t have any DRL’s or fog lamps in this particular variant. However, the outside door handles are body-colored along with colored side-view mirrors with integrated turn signals. The windshield of Corolla is laminated and has intermittent windshield wipers. It has a glass embedded antenna and provided with an extended chrome rear garnish. The standard tyre size in Corolla XLi is 195/65 R15, with steel wheels having full wheel caps.

There is a huge difference in the price of two cars. The company has introduced this particular variant of Yaris at a very low price as compared to the outgoing GLi model of Corolla. This will excite many Toyota lovers and may also turn out to be the reason for the success of Yaris in Pakistan as well. However, it’s an introductory price, as mentioned by the company, which means there will soon be a revision in the price of Yaris.
