Traffic Alert: M2 Motorway and Key Lahore Routes Closed
Lahore — Commuters traveling between Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad are facing major traffic disruptions today as several key routes, including the M2 Motorway from Lahore, have been closed due to security and administrative reasons.
According to a traffic alert issued by a social media influencer Shaheryar Hassan (@shaheryarhassan) at 9:20 AM, the M2 from Lahore (Thokar Niaz Baig) has been closed, restricting all vehicular movement towards Islamabad.
Shortly after, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) released an official Safe City Traffic Alert at 10:00 AM, confirming widespread closures and urging citizens to use alternate routes.
Areas Affected
The following major routes in Lahore have been closed in both directions:
- Lal Pul (both sides)
- Thokar Niaz Baig towards Babu Sabu
- Canal Road towards Jail Road (both directions)
- Dharampura and Samanabad underpasses (both directions)
- M2 Motorway (Lahore–Islamabad, both sides)
- M3 Motorway (Lahore–Abdul Hakeem, both sides)
- M11 Motorway (Lahore–Sialkot, both sides)
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and opt for alternate routes to minimize congestion. Motorists are also encouraged to stay updated via Safe City Radio FM 88.6, PSCA’s social media platforms, or by calling 15 (and pressing 6) for real-time traffic information.
Public Advisory
Travelers heading from Lahore to Islamabad are particularly advised to avoid Thokar Niaz Baig and Motorway interchanges, as traffic is being diverted due to the closures. Delays are expected throughout the day until further notice.
