Traffic Wardens Arrested in Lahore for Bribery Involved in License Issuance
LAHORE: Three traffic wardens and five of their assistants were arrested for accepting bribes in exchange for issuing driving licenses, according to ARY reported. Police have filed a case against the detained individuals, with five separate charges, at the Gulberg Police Station.
The operation took place at the Liberty’s Khidmat Markaz after several complaints of bribery regarding the issuance of licenses. The suspects, both wardens and assistants, were arrested for their involvement in the illegal activity.
ASP Gulberg explained that when a person paid Rs. 10,000 for a license, the assistants at the traffic center would collect the money and then approach the wardens. The wardens, after guaranteeing the issuance of the license, would then demand an additional Rs. 15,000.
The arrested officers were found with the bribe money on them. The department has already initiated internal disciplinary action against the detained individuals.
