The state run Oil and Gas Development Company Ltd. on Wednesday hit a record production level of 50,172 barrels per day of oil, securing 57 percent shares in the country’s total production of 88,000 barrels per day. While addressing a news conference, the Chief Executive Officer of the company Mr. Zahid Mir said:

The crossing of 50,000 bpd psychological barrier is a historic moment. It has been our long-standing aspiration for decades

Pakistan meets its 12pc oil requirement from indigenous resources. Sources report that the company is all set to inject 4,000 barrels of additional oil per day, 100 million cubic feet per day of gas and 400 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas, starting with fewer quantities in the first week of December and then gradually going up. This addition will be coming from Kunar Pasakhi Deep field in Sindh, which had been held up in court cases and disputes.

Mir further elaborated that OGDCL’s production hovered between 35,000-45,000 bpd. Last year, the company had produced 41,000 bpd on average. He said this breakthrough has been achieved by opting for an aggressive exploration and development program in the last few years. As a part of this aggressive exploration, the country’s largest oil producer introduced four fresh seismic crews into untapped Baluchistan, which has been inaccessible due to security situation for a long time. Mir also claimed that it is for the first time that the company’s crews are simultaneously working in different parts of the country. These crews had started in Kharan, Pasni, Gawadar, Zhob and Musa Khel. Two of these nine crews are also working in Wali and Baratai in Latambar Block of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas, which was also non-accessible due to security issues.
