Women on Wheels – Hundreds of bikes given to women in Punjab

Not only in Pakistan, but around the globe many projects have been started to encourage women to drive cars and bikes on roads fearlessly. In Pakistan, a project namely Women on Wheels has been started for the same purpose in Punjab.

Previously, the government announced to provide subsidized motorbikes to women belonging to Punjab and recently, on Sunday(14-4-2018) under Women on Wheels project, around 700 women have been given the bikes at an event that took place in Al-Hamra hall.

The bikes were handed over to the owners by the Punjab Excise Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman. While speaking at the event, the minister said that without the participation of women in every sector, the country would not progress. Moreover, he also said that under this project, women are being given bikes at subsidized rates.

Furthermore, he also mentioned that how the traffic police officials are helping women to learn how to ride a bike properly on roads.

As per the minister, till now 3,000 bikes have been given to the women of different cities of Punjab. Furthermore, the government is aiming to expand this project to all 36 districts of the province, he added. The motorbikes have been specially manufactured for women.

Aside from Punjab Government initiating projects for women, women in Saudi Arabia are all set to drive cars from June 24th, 2018. Women above 18 years of age and older will be allowed to apply for a driving license, and then they will be assessed. Driving schools have been built in the Kingdom, where women can go and learn driving from women instructors.
