Suzuki Fronx First Look Review: A Serious Rival to Kia Stonic?
The wait is finally over! Suzuki Pakistan has officially entered the crossover segment with the launch of the all-new Suzuki Fronx on May 6th. While the brand is mainly known for hatchbacks, the Fronx signifies a bold move forward.
But does it have enough “punch” to take on the likes of the Kia Stonic?
Let’s break down the variants, the tech, and that confusing “Mild Hybrid” system in our signature PakWheels first-look review.
Suzuki Fronx Variants and Pricing
Suzuki has introduced four variants of the Fronx, catering to different budgets and transmission preferences.
| Variant | Transmission | Engine Type | Price (PKR Approx.) |
| GL (Base) | 5-Speed Manual | Non-Hybrid | 60.0 Lakh |
| GL Automatic | 4-Speed Automatic | Non-Hybrid | 61.0 Lakh |
| GLX (Monotone) | 6-Speed Automatic | Mild Hybrid | 63.0 Lakh |
| GLX (Dual Tone) | 6-Speed Automatic | Mild Hybrid | 63.75 Lakh |
Note: The Dual Tone option is available in three specific color combinations in which the roof and body colors differ.

Design: Unexpectedly Aggressive
Let’s be honest: we don’t usually expect “sporty” from Suzuki, but the Fronx looks great.
- Front Fascia: You get a massive black grille with a chrome strip that flows into the LED DRLs (which also act as turn signals). Below them sit the three-pod LED headlights that look very modern.
- The Profile: It has a “Coupe-SUV” silhouette with a sloping roofline. It sits on 16-inch alloy rims (standard across all variants) with Goodyear tires.
- Rear Aesthetics: The rear features a spoiler with a high-mounted brake light, a rear wiper, and a massive diffuser that makes the car look wider and more planted than it actually is.
The “Mild Hybrid” Confusion Cleared Up
Many people are confused about how the Fronx Hybrid works. It’s not like a Toyota Prius or Aqua, where a massive electric motor drives the wheels.
In the GLX variants, you get a 1.5L K15C engine paired with a 12V Mild Hybrid system.
How does it work? There is a small battery under the driver’s seat. Instead of driving the wheels, the starter motor provides an “assist” to the engine during acceleration, when the car consumes the most fuel.
The Result: Better fuel average in city traffic and smoother start-stop transitions.
Interior: Burgundy Vibes and Surprise Features
Stepping inside, the first thing you’ll notice is the Burgundy and Black dual-tone interior.
- The Screens: The GLX gets a bigger, crisper 9-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while the GL variants get a smaller, more basic unit.
- Paddle Shifters: Yes, you read that right! In the 6-speed GLX, you get paddle shifters for a manual-like driving experience.
- Rear Comfort: In a surprising move, Suzuki has included Rear AC Vents and Type-C charging ports. The legroom is impressive for a car this size, though seating three large adults in the back might be a squeeze.
Fronx vs. Kia Stonic: The Size Check
If you’ve seen the Kia Stonic on the road, you have a good reference point. The Fronx is almost identical in width and height to the Stonic, but it is roughly 100-150mm shorter in length. Despite its shorter size, the clever interior packaging makes it feel surprisingly spacious.

Safety and Practicality
- Parking: All variants come with rear parking sensors, but front sensors are missing across the board.
- Boot Space: You get a deep 310-liter trunk, which is plenty for groceries or two medium suitcases.
- Spare Tire: Kudos to Suzuki for providing a full-size spare tire under the boot floor, essential for Pakistani roads!
The Verdict: Hit or Miss?
The Suzuki Fronx is a stylish, feature-packed entry into a competitive price bracket. While the interior is mostly hard plastic, the addition of the Mild Hybrid system and those premium touches (Type-C ports, paddle shifters, and 360-view cameras in some trims) make it a strong contender.
What do you think? Is 63 Lakh too much for a Suzuki crossover, or is this the best value for money in the current market?
