Zubab Rana’s 2-Year Journey with the Audi e-tron 50 Quattro
If you’ve been on the streets of Lahore, Karachi, or Islamabad lately, you’ve noticed a shift. The roar of the V8 is being replaced by the futuristic “whir” of electric motors. In the world of Pakistani EVs, one name stands as the pioneer: the Audi e-tron.
In our latest User Review, Suneel Munj sits down with Zubab Rana to discuss her 2024 Audi e-tron 50 Quattro. Is it still the king of EVs, or is the new Chinese competition catching up?
Let’s dive in.
The Purchase Decision: Logic Over Luxury?
When Zubab bought her e-tron brand new in March 2024, it wasn’t just a “green” fashion statement. It was a calculated financial move.
The Price Gap: At the time, a gasoline-powered Audi Q8 was hitting the 90 million PKR mark due to insane duties. The e-tron offered similar luxury for roughly 30 million PKR (invoice price).
The Petrol Factor: With petrol prices hitting record highs and availability becoming unpredictable, having a “fuel pump” in your garage (a home charger) has become the ultimate source of peace of mind.

Range vs. Reality
The biggest myth in Pakistan is that you can’t live with an EV. Zubab’s experience tells a different story for city dwellers:
| Condition | Estimated Range (80% Charge) |
| With Air Conditioning | 240 – 245 KM |
| Without Air Conditioning | 280 – 285 KM |
| Charge Time (Home) | 2 – 2.5 Hours |
| Charge Cost | Approx. Rs. 2,500 – 3,000 per session |
The Verdict: It is the perfect Urban Mobility solution. However, for a “Lahore to Islamabad” trip, you have to be brave. While the 50 Quattro can reach the Bhera rest area, the current lack of a reliable national charging network makes long-distance travel a gamble.
Maintenance: It’s Cheaper, Not Free
A common misconception is that EVs cost zero rupees to maintain.
- The Cost: Zubab has spent roughly Rs. 35,000 on routine service over 15,000 KM.
- The Math: That works out to about Rs. 2.3 per kilometer.
- The Warranty: Audi offers an 8-year or 160,000 KM battery warranty. Even after two years of ownership, Zubab feels “sorted” knowing the most expensive part of the car is covered for six more years.
German Engineering vs. The Chinese Influx
With brands like Deepal and MG flooding the market with 500KM+ ranges for half the price, why stick to an e-tron?
“I am a German lover. When you see cars catching fire in the news, you realize safety is your first priority. I trust the legacy of a brand that has decades of engineering to protect its passengers.” — Zubab Rana
For many, the Build Quality, Air Suspension, and Safety Ratings of Audi outweigh the high-tech gadgets and “extra miles” offered by newer, unproven entrants.
The “Sarkari” Headache: Taxes and Registration
Suneel Munj and Zubab didn’t hold back on the government’s role.
- The Registration Trap: Despite slogans of “Free EV Registration,” Zubab had to pay nearly 1 million PKR to register her car in 2024.
- The “CC” Mystery: Only in Pakistan will you find an electric motor’s power being recorded as “CC” on a registration book!
- Policy Gaps: While EVs are cheaper in terms of Import Duty, the high registration and token costs remain a barrier for many potential buyers.
Features: Living the Premium Life
If you’re paying 30+ million PKR, you expect a certain level of “wow” factor. The e-tron 50 Quattro delivers:
- Soft-Close Doors: No more slamming; the car pulls the door shut for you.
- Bang and Olufsen 3D Sound: Zubab describes it as “sitting in a cinema.”
- Perfume Package: An integrated fragrance system to keep the cabin fresh.
- Matrix LED Headlights: For superior visibility during night drives.

Final Verdict
The Audi e-tron 50 Quattro remains a statement of class and smart economics. It’s for the driver who wants the prestige of the four rings without the headache of the petrol station.
What do you think? Would you choose the “Safe Bet” of a used German Audi, or the “Big Range” of a brand-new Chinese EV?
