Default Power Steering of Accord 88

    Hey Pakistanis!
I have Accord 88. Power Steering of my car is having oil leakage problem.

Oil is coming out somewhere from bottle. either the cap is loose, the pipe is loose or as mechanic said "there is some problem with oil pump".

I am not satisfied with the excuse that my mechanic has given. I mean ho can oil be leaked from bottle cap if pump is not working properly and making air.

Please suggest me what to do? as oil is leaking constantly.

    Regards

    Shahbaz Siddiqui

the usual leak point is the feed line that is at the bottom of the bottle, if your mechanic or anyone has been rough with the bottle or it was not locked into its bracket it can crack and leak at that point. You cannot repair it with epoxy or glue, it needs a HOT fiberglass patch. messy work.

If the pump is taking in air then there would be a lot of noise in the system. Make sure that is not the case. Use genuine honda PSF as this is not a regular vane type pump its a twin gear pump - very high pressure.

if the bottle is leaking from the bottom (intake of pump) then there is no economical way of repair, epoxy etc will not stick to the PE material. You need a HOT repair with glas fibre and thermal set resin to repair it.

If your system is noisy and your high pressure line is not genuine Honda then forget about any repair. the original nylon braided line with built in valve is necessary to quieten the system.

BTW the pump cannot take in air unless the bottle is about 50% emtpy - its shape and installation location is designed as such to make sure no air enters the pump in any condition. When the low side is opened for repair, the manual suggests you hand spin the pump first with high side removed to make sure you remove major air from it.

Brother if power steering is working fine and has no play or excessive hardness leave it as is.

If the yellow PSF pipe coming from the bottle is leak it will cost you 900 new and 400 from kabar.

As Xulfiqar bhai said it is a very messy job.

Buy 1 litre of genuine PSF for 900 rs from Saddar and level the oil only when it goes below the min mark.

Try not to use the steering at full locks while driving.
