Default Maintenance of a Honda Accord CF3 2001

    Salaam-alikum Everybody

Was just seeking some expert advise so hoping you good people can help me out inshallah

I have recently purchase a Honda Accord CF3 2001 and its in really good condition overall.

I was just wondering if someone could advise me as to which Liqui Moly products I should use for my car to basically keep it in optimum working condition.

I change the oil and filter every 3000kms with Shell Helix (the yellow bottle).

I recently bought a Liqui Moly fuel additive for Rs900 - it was supposed to clean the engine etc I don't really remember the label but it significantly reduced the engine noise so I was very happy with the results.

What other Liqui Moly products would you recommend I use and could you give me an idea of the prices ?

As the car is 11 years old and not knowing whether the Brake Oil, Gear Oil etc needs changing every now and then - I would be very grateful if someone could advise whether it is recommended to drain these oil and replace them with new ones?

I look forward to replies inshallah

    Thank you

    Karim

3000 kms oil change, the mechanic is getting free oil for his car anyway - as first things first, have you changed the brake fluid and the rubber pipes - they are a 10 year item at max while the brake fluid is a year item.

Trans oil needs to be changed at correct intervals too, ATF is about 40,000 kms in rough service, timing belt at 80,000 along with new tensioner and water pump, the water pump is a major PITA to change as you need to remove the timing belt anyway.

Haha someone must have told me to change it at 3000kms - how long should I make it run? . Ok Brake Fluid I can change. I don't know if the previous owner changed it. Transmission oil I'll do as well. I was hoping not to do anything mechanical as all in all the car is in really good condition i.e. was maintained by Honda throughout by the previous owner I believe.

Hoping to get some further advise on what Liqui Moly products I should use.

Thank you for your kind response

    Regards

all LM products are good, just look for what are you using for what purpose. LM engine oils, ATFs, specialty greases are excellent.

I used LM engine flush, injector cleaner and fuel system cleaner on 3 cars: 2006 Lancer (45K KM), 2003 CL7 (90K KM), Corolla 2009 (90K KM)

The effects on the Lancer and CL7 were phenomenal, and negligible on the Corolla. It's safe to assume that regardless of mileage, your 2001 Accord will benefit greatly. The engine flush results were remarkable; the engine was smoother and happier to rev.

Generally speaking, since you just bought your car and there isn't really a way to tell what's been going on, just change all the fluids. Brake, Steering, Transmission, Clutch, Coolant... You might want to check the condition of all rubber components, including bushings, engine/transmission mounts, suspension arms, shock mounts. Additionally, steering racks on hondas get damaged pretty easily, so check for play. You might also want to check the dampers, and control arms on the car, springs should be fine.

Also, have all your sensors on the intake and exhaust cleaned properly(remove and clean) - should be done with care. Also have the catalytic convertor checked for condition. This should greatly improve engine response, performance, fuel economy and idle.

Besides the steering rack, everything else is pretty inexpensive and can make a great difference in the way a car feels and performs.

I usually change engine oil at 5-6K. I've tried a few, but most comfortable with Mobil. Use Mobil 1 in the CL7 (expensive, but car is hardly driven, so maybe 2 oil changes a year). For all the other cars Mobil super 2000 - make sure upper limit is 40 atleast. I think super 2000 is 10W40, could be wrong though.

Thanks a lot atb160. With regards to the engine flush - forgive my ignorance but does it require opening of the engine etc or is it just another additive like the injector cleaner?

Look forward to hearing from you

if you really conscious about cleaning out the engine internally then start using synthetic engine oil, it really really scrubs the engine clean, you can also use diesel engine oil as it has detergent capabilities and also holds a lot of soot in it which then will get drained out when changing.

^^ I honestly dont like to use flushes in engines as it can dislodge crap and mud and create a headache for me. Ive used diesel engine oils with great success in keeping engines clean and used synthetics to clean up dirty engines.

I have had some cars come in for repair after a "mobil 1 aail change" - the residual sludge and muck from running cold was cleaned out by the oil and proceeded to block the VTEC spool valve in Hondas and also seen a bunch of weird problems. But it was 5 out of 10 cars so in my books its a 50% chance.

If the engine has been used properly at proper temperature with correct lubes and filtration (air included) then using flush or synthetic will do no harm.

You know, I was always weary that that could happen. On all my cars, it wasn't a concerned, so never bothered and went with it. However, I used it on a corolla 99 with 200+ clicks on it (used by my office people). I think they changed the engine oil after every 20K or so! Anyway, it would make weird noises (like garbage ratline in a container) above 3K rpm. Had throttle body and injectors cleaned, still the same. I had my driver pick up a Chinese engine flush (wasn't aware of LM's presence in Pak). Used it on the car, and viola perfect. The 4A-FE is still doing great, still a tad faster than my much newer and much pampered CL-7!
