    Default Accord 88 Engine Swap

    AOA
Guyz i recently gave my accord for complete engine overhaul but unfortunatley the block has a crack n crank canot be replaced as the engine was built already couple of times...
Have searched alot to get the OEM engine in shershah but clndt find it so now i have no other option than swap

    NOW THE SWAP
Now the real thing is m planning a swap on it
engine i m considering keeping my budget in mind is D15B Dual VTEC
The car chasis is solid as the engine is out of the car now n evrything is clear to me....

    Things m confused with are
1 will the swap be sucessful as this accord has its engine rite in the center of the engine bay
2 Will the chasis be altered for mounts n is it worth it?
3 Will wiring make an issue as the car is Carb n the engine i willl be getting will b efi with an ecu

UR suggestions will be very helpful guyz
    Speacially
People who have done swaps n knw where to get the rite engine in what price

P.S: I bought this accord for getting luxury n no doubt m really happy with the drive of her its way awesom n m not going to sell it.

the only B series that fits in bolt on is a B20A which slants forward - that engine was built for this car and is very rare too as most have been scrapped as no one wanted them when they were in the scrapyard.

H and F engines require serious surgery in the engine bay to get them to fit in this car. You need to cut a big chunk off the right side of the engine bay to clear the gearbox.

D engines are smaller but their gearboxes are wider which causes the whole thing to stick out. You need to cut the right side but a bit less than the H and F series.

In any case you need to cut the original mount bracket from the car and make new ones for both sides - (your car originally has no mount on the gearbox side)

    your choice. your money.

make double and triple sure this B20A slants forward - you will notice it immediately when on the floor, it needs a block of wood at the front mount to sit upright just like the original A16 does out of the car.

The CRV model B20A will not fit and neither will the 90 prelude one fit without major surgery.

I only saw 2 of these 3rd Gen Accord B20A in Karachi and I bought one of them complete with ECU. The shopowner was more than delighted to sell me that engine as no one wanted it. My extended family had a car with this engine originally, it was a later import and was named Vigor, I stuck accord badges on it - people used to think it was called Vigo lol.

This B20A can really pull hard - no vtec or anything fancy but solid honest true to the word power. But its really hard to get.

I have put an F20A into this accord and it was a major surgery with long hours of crafting etc. The car was a basket case so nothing to lose there.

The F20A is the original engine of the 1991 Accord Si in Japan, 150 hp and 150 lb/ft torque. It can move this car like its a toy.

Every engine mount bracket was hand made and every mount was hand made, the exhaust manifold header was hand made, the entire wiring was hand made to fit like original.

The hubs and spindles were replaced with bigger items (very very expensive) to make the proper axles fit. The shift selector was mounted and a hole cut to pass the shift cables through the car, the clutch also was converted to hydraulic and that was also quite interesting because there is no room to install - so I had a reverse type cylinder in the car.

A pakwheels friend of mine had swapped D17A in his 88 Accord. His mechanic did great job in swapping. Has auto transmission. @salmanb can elaborate further. Only thing he faced and even I faced in my 92 accord is that after swap the power steering wont work. This requires you to have original Speed sensitive Speed sensor and its pipes hooked. It makes steering soft like hell.

I saw his car wiring was done like crap. Almost all Connector A was not connected to anything. ECU was just doomed. No VTEC. I prefer D series due to readily available engine parts. Wiring can be custom done. All you need to do is find a guy who is willing to take on challenge to make custom mounts and foundations and use proper tools to level the engine.

I have seen F20A DOHC here in junkyard. F23A, F18B. B20 was also there. I have seen Original Accord engine with Jungle of Vacuums .

Honestly I love how the stock engine is so silent, it has so much torque especially below 2000rpm. Imo nothing suits the chassis better

cast iron block - ultimate silence, add long intake runner manifold and long engine stroke = torque. Usually old carby cars had a lot of it.

and its an addiction. e.g. I sometimes have to drive a 6.7 cummins powered dodge truck. When a load is applied, like a trailer in dirt - and you press the accelerator the truck doesnt move due to the load and then you hear the turbo blow and the engine all of a sudden will start to pull like a beast is woken up. Driving down the highway with no load the beast goes to sleep again.

That is torque and you have to respect it - because it can destroy the gearbox if you are not careful.

    Thanks for mention me @afnan.bashir

well yes i have swapped D17A VTEC engine with auto transmission in my Accord 88, and i m more than happy with swap, its almost a year now and alhamdulillah i havent been to workshop ever for engine issue.

here is link for my car swap
    https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/eng...88-engine-swap

and best part is my car beats any stock civic upto 2005 model.

go do D17A its really making drive very comfortable and luxurious, car pickup is crazy fast as this car is very very heavy. but this engine has perfect torque for pull this car.
