    Default Electronic Power Steering in Suzuki Alto VXR

    Dear Friends,

    I have seen lot of mail on this topic, few friends have also had this conversion yet confusion persists as how its done and what parts are required.

    If you love DIY, then its a ideal sunday assignment.

    • Conversion is related to car interior.
    • Remove the steering column from dash board and cross at floor.
    • Strip the steering column to tube level. see picture.
    • Exchange the locks on both steering tubes.
    • Re assemble the steering column.
    • Re install into car.
    • Wire the EPS. Needs, -, + , switched power, rpm.
    • Re install the steering column.
    • Connect the cross.
    • Start the car and check before putting back dash board panels.
    • Picture.
      • On Right side is the original (manual) steering tube taken out of car with locking mechanism removed.
      • On Left side is new steering tube (EPS), note the motor on base with a square box, this is the controller. Locking mechanism under my thumb.

    • Only 2 bolts and one cross needs to be opened.
    • Total cost Rs 8000/- with steering wheel

    In addition, as already mentioned I have recently installed EPS in my ALTO and I am more than satisfied with its working, as far as hardness is concerned, as soon as I got high speed even I can feel its hardness on above on speed of 20 it’s become gradually harder and harder. On last weekend I have tried it on motorway and on 120 it become much harder that I can stay without touches the steering.

    Even I think it’s more secure than a manual as a manual steering becomes light on high speed. So that my vote is with EPS

    Are you sure?

    EPS is a newer technology, i doubt that it has such a big bhand, that it doesnt gets hard.

    the only difference i knew was that this ones Electronic and the other one hydraulic.

    Which helps less load on the engine, and less mechanism is involed.

    And yes, its lighter

    If it works as ure saying then its great, and a very "must have" modification. + its cheap too.

    The doubt arose to me, that may be the wiring isnt proper and maybe it needs a ECU commands to work to.

    But as you said, its just a matter of some screws and wires.. and ure gud to go. So its realy great

    IF i ever get a Alto, im getting this done the very next day.

    I used to think that its a good add-on on our little shopping trollys. but its totally not. i agree with all of you who are saying that its dangerous. just last week my friend got into an accident, his car slipped cause of the eps in his alto and he crashed.
    now i would totally advise against it.

    Entirely wrong!
    It (the ECU) takes feed from RPM as well as Speedometer too. Most ECUs also cut off powered assistance at over 100 kmph.
    Its more intelligent and efficient than the HPS systems.

    He needs to get the EPS installed correctly in order to functional well as intended. I think mechanics does not join in the wires correctly and plugs in transmitters to sensors for fake signals. ECU of EPS has inputs from RPM and Speedometer both, and that is required to sense the pulse and function accordingly. Their intended functionality is to lessen the intended power/torque to the assembly motor w.r.t to the speed of the vehicle.
    I have myself got EPS installed into my carby Cultus more than 2 years ago and it was the first of such efforts herein.

    I fully agree with @alto09, the ESP if rightly wired starts to turn hard over 20kph. The drive is real pleasure especially at high speeds as the car is more stable now.

    Highly recommended add-on.

    @2c,

    All the imported small cars come with EPS, i.e. Alto, Mira etc. Furthermore its tried and tested technology City was the 1st local car to have it.

    The one I got installed is from JDM Alto, bolt to bolt fitting. As per my experience the car is much more stable at high speeds now with EPS than it was earlier.

    It has nothing to do with flipping the car over.

    Me not in the favour of having EPS in the local assembled 1000cc or less cars.

    Electronic Power Steering in Suzuki Alto VXR -224103

    I installed EPS in my alto last year and believe me I didnt get a single problem.
    @poster
    Dont worry,it will not give you a single problem.I hope now you are enjoying your alto.Now turning it is a great pleasure

    @shariqak1
    It can be installed in mehran but it needs alteration.I myself will neither recommend you nor any mechanic.In alto its a bolt on fit.Moreover,steering wheel is a very sensitive part of the car,better not to mess with it.
