Default Questions about the Toyota Belta

    Salam to all,

I was thinking of buying a Toyota Belta and wanted to get your views on it. I don't see it on the roads much which leads me to think that it has it's fair share of issues, is that so? Is it a car that you would recommend to someone? I am not technical at all when it comes to cars and the reason I am interested in this one is because of it's stylish looks . I plan to install CNG, so please also tell me whether the Belta runs well on CNG. I am looking forward to your insights, thanks in advance!

I heard that TOYOTA will launch 1.3 Belta locally, and XLI and GLI will be discontinued. But i am not sure about this news.

XLi and GLi are bread and butter of IMC according to one of their officials. Some years back Tata Nano was also stated to be released in Pakistan in one PakWheels blog.

Don't go for it if you want to keep it for long, unless you have money to burn or technical know how, or both. Its not an issue with Belta; its an issue with grey imports in general. That issue is manufacturer-backed spare parts and maintenance.

Junkyard items don't count; they are in the junkyard for a reason. Junked suspension parts, clutches, belts, and sensors just don't cut it.

As for maintenance, almost no one has factory service manuals for these cars, so they can never receive proper maintenance. IMC mechanics are not trained to work on them, since they don't officially sell them here.

Belta, Platz, and Vitz are some of the most fuel efficient (and ugly) conventional petrol cars on the planet; its a shame that they are not sold officially by IMC.

An elite level hypermiler can squeeze out 30+ kml from any of these cars (documented in this youtube video). Even with normal/spirited driving, 14-16 kml is possible.

The car has has to be in a decent condition though, not an ill maintained example with a bridged CEL and the cat removed.

I doubt any one here maintains these cars with new OEM parts, and using the service manual and specialty tools.
