    Default platz o/d option

O/D option: whether it should be kept on or off for better economy.

Overdrive (O/D) is actually the fourth gear. If you keep it off, the transmission doesnt shift to the fourth gear. Its more economical to keep it on as the car consumes less fuel once its in the fourth gear.
@Maverickkk. No, its not there to give you a 50% performance boost.

O/D or overdrive, when switched off restricts the 'box to third gear. This is done when climb uphill when the car usually constantly shifts from 3rd to 4th gear and 4th to 3rd which causes excessive wear of the clutch plate. Under normal driving conditions its switched on.
