Poor Pakistanis,
i am european living here more than a year and i have observed this right from very first days of my stay. The whole point is that yu are actually a prisiners of the system that should originaly protect you.
Believe me there is many better cars than Toyota Corolla GLI 1,3L engine!!!!!! Look for all european cars - they are technically 5-10 years ahead!!! Corolla actually sucks but there is no better option here.
The fact that only few assemblers are in Pkaistan where the market is nearly 200 million people is more than surprising. But car makers never start to enter the market with immediate setting their assembly site in the country. There must be a first a period of entering the market from outside=imported vehicles. And having a assembly site can not be a condition to open the showrooms in the country - which is basicaly situation of Pakistan. Will anyone try to import the car into the country having 300% duty on it??? man wake NOBODY will even try.
So result is, you are a prisoner of goverment, dealers and local manufacturers who feel absolutely no pressure from competitors. THIS IS CALL FREE MARKET AND IT IS BASIC CONDITION TO DEVELOP THE COUNTRY - you will find it in every bloody university scyllabuss.
The basic thing is: WHO CAN CHANGE PAKISTAN ARE ONLY PAKISTANIS - IF THEY WANT. So far the situation is probably comfortable for many people - army, goverment etc...
So, go to the streets, demonstrate, change the law, change the politics and pay taxes. Otherwise the country stay feudal and rural and these "protective" laws always be here.
I wish a good luck to this country because my wife is pakistani so i have feeling for it. but again nobody will change it for you guys.
Well, the other guys are right, you can go for something else than Toyota - Chevy is another world even if you for the smallest one. but again there are even better cars than chevy.
One more thought, you would be very surprised how many cheap cars would be imported if you swith to the left hand driving....but that is another story.
Good luck with byuing new car dear, but dont go for Alto, dont go for Cultus and other craps - its old, no space, no airbags, ne protection nothing.....
Look around and buy something with airbags at least. Good luck and drive safe.
