Thread: Charade 84 engine swap.

    Default Charade 84 engine swap.

    I have a Charade 84 Detomaso, which is currently going through engine swap and denting/welding work.
    Since this is my first swap so I have confusions/concerns and I want this swap to be a NO REGRET swap
    Suggestions and guidance is needed.
    My car is daily driven (average 70-80 kms daily). Previously it had CB-50 (almost dead) and according to my experience overhaul isn't a solution.
    I want an efficient and loyal engine. Don't want to spend time in workshop.
    My mechanic is recommending Daihatsu 16 valve 1.3 engine, Is it a good pick or is there any other better option available? Personally I am recommending any 1.0 efi with minimum alteration (or no alteration). I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

    Hey i crashed my b16 charade and have everything minus the motor for you to complete the swap, including wire harness
    Axles and motor mounts.

    the 84 detamasu has the same engine as the 86 cg standard , ive over houled its engine for the 3rd time since 1986 when we bought her brand new. The cost was around 40 k plus a brand new radiator. Its been almost 10 months and Ma sh ALLAH its like new. Best to keep her restored to her original state.

    @CarSaaz I agree sir. But I've mentioned already that overhauling my original engine is not a good option because of following reasons.
    1) It burns 1 to 1.5 liter of Mobil oil everyday.
    2) 7-8 km/liter mileage.
    3) Gearbox was at it's last stage.
    and so many minor faults.

    You could go for an EJ-VE which is a 1.0 motor and comes in the Daihatsu Storia or Toyota Duet. As good as an option the 1sz-fe (1.0 vitz motor) would be, the main drawback that I've seen with it being swapped in the G11 Charade is that its oil sump hangs too low and would definitely cause issues.

    Yeah Oil sumps indeed hangs low ..hits Bricks and bumps..

    I havent personally seen the hc-e/hc-c installed in a g11. There could be fitment issues as the g11 has a narrower engine bay than the g100/101. Also, there are very limited hc engines available locally so finding spares and a healthy engine would be an issue, unlike the Toyota and Honda motors.

    Which City, 4 cylinder or 3 cylinder ?
    Actually i have a 1998 model Duet, the engine has become weak due to the negligence of the previous owner, still it is good in city but A/c doesn't work. So i am willing to change the engine. What can be the possible expenses regarding all the other stuff related ?
