Default Honda City or Toyota Corolla Xli ?

Can someone suggest which New car to buy from the above two. Since both of the above cars are within the same price or close price range, so which should one buy? Factors to be considered are driving experience, overall performance, etc.. All opinions are welcomed. Thanks.

I was in the same position you are around 2 months back....i drove both, XLI and the city, and found the drive of the city MUCH MUCH better, (+ i get the tachometer muahhahaha i love that), + city gives around 13-14km/L average which is much better than the XLI....so in my opinion, if u want ride/excellent petrol average, u cant go wrong with the city ...just get a nice set of rims for it though !

Well thanks for the comments. I haven't driven a Xli but have driven the new City and the noticeable difference is that City does not have temperature guage. It just denotes temperature with a red or blue icon which changes. Although hard for it to happen, but how would one know how hot the engines running, in case of a radiator drain or busted gasket.

Secondly, on fuel consumption I have also read somewhere, for best econo fuel results, City should be kept in stock tyres and rims. I maybe be wrong on that.

Thanks for the reply, City is my favorite as well, but I hate to go wrong with my purchase, and regret later.

Its a matter of personal choice really. I have driven both the cars and personaly i like corolla Xli better. It has a stronger brand name and has hence has a stronger resale value. As far as the drive is concerned its prety much the same. city is good on fuel (with standard tyres and rims)but corolla is not bad either. Corolla is much more spacious and comfortable. In overall looks corolla is far ahead of city. The only down side of buying a xli is that u get only two chooices either black or white whereas in city u get a whole range. If I were you I would go for the xli. Cheers.

what i suggest is that u drive both cars first, u will be able to make a decision right there and then.i agree with you that the city only has 2 lights, blue for cold, red for hot, in my opinion it is sufficient.i currently own a baleno, and i have seen the needle in 3 positions.when is absolutely cold, then it comes in middle denoting OK temperature, then it comes to HOT (my cars water body leaked so thats when i saw it ), other wise, i think the lights should be sufficient to prevent engine overheating by informing the driver.i have two friends who own citys (actually ones got stolen, ctrack is a must in new cars)..one had 15" rims/205 tyres and got 11 per litre.and the other one has 14" 185 and gets 13-14....so IMHO 14" are the best for the city, without compromising much on the fuel average...regards.

Okay Mr Gr8, shall I take it as a personal hit ? no hard feelings as a healthy joke should always be welcomed. Oh btw in new xli rpm meter is introduced

If I were to buy one of the two then i would have gone for city as u get a fully loaded veh in the same price, the only plus point for corolla is, its looks, strong suspension & better resale value, in all other acpects City takes the cake.

Now Mr.gr8 must be happy that he got what he wanted, i.e. a reply frm me

Well, if u r considering buying any one of these two u should keep in mind the difference in price ...... the basic Xli would cost you the amount of money in which you can almost buy an automatic top of the line city... with power windows and power side view mirrors both of these things are not available in the Xli .... besides that the colour issue is also a big one while corolla are giving only two colours the city people have a wide variety and they have just introduced a new colour in the city i.e. sky blue sumthing....... neways i believe that corolla will not give u the trunk space that the city does ... u can argue on the leg sapce but that is almost equal for both of them.... if i were to buy one of the two i'd consider the city as the sensible choice...... but i think when it comes to cars sense does not make sense because the corolla looks like a big bad monster that is the only point i am willing to give to the corolla another bad thing about the corolla is the driving postion it is very awkward and the a pillars( the pillars on the side of the windscreen) block the view when making a U-turn which is very dangerous(blind spots)

i just wanted to add one more thing ...... the city is a very different looking car while the corolla looks better and much more conventional so if u like the corolla's shape and u like to be seen in the corolla rather than the city go for it because i believe that a man is what he drives ..........

lol @ 17" rims man..they alone cost i guess 80K....one more point i would like to add is that the IMHO the citys interior is much superior to the XLis as i have seen new xli's with wierd sounds coming from inside, + cheap quality stuff inside...
