    Default Honda City vario 26+ KM/litre

    I know this seems to be a tall claim, but it’s the truth.

    1. Filled the tank (max possible) from Caltex F-10 Islamabd.
    2. Drove to Mirpur and went straight to the petrol pump (141 Kms).
    3. Filled the tank (max possible)…. Only 5.33 Liters
    4. You do the maths…

    I was a bit surprised myself. I have felt that the mileage of the car has improved with time, but I had not checked the mileage on the car for a long time since it runs over pretty short distances most of the time within Mirpur City (a small city).

    I think my driving habits need a mention here as well. I don’t press the pedal to the floor. I let the car accelerate steadily. During my trip from Islamabad to Mirpur I kept within the speed limit (100 km/hr) for most of the time… occasionally going to 120 on few straight stretches of road.

    pl check fill the tank for some gas stations is like filling untill it starts to drip out and for others its like when the auto shut down of the filler automtically stops. there is difference of atleast 5-10 liters in that.

    When I said "max possible" it meant oil almost dripping out..... I did that intentionally at both fills just to make sure that my calculations were as accurate as possible....

    Having said all that I still think the new honda city is a shitty car. I got the car in October 2004 and here is my list of complaints:

    1. Hard suspension (equipped with Shock observers not absorbers)
    2. The whole left rear door lock mechanism fell down.
    3. Driver-side lock system stopped working.
    4. Driver-side power window stopped working.

    I knew I would get a lot of flake for this. So I am withdrawing my claim till I hit the highway again and retest it.

    Maybe the dispenser of the Mirpur Petrol pump was pumping more gas than it showed (naaa!!!)

    @g16b:
    actually a rickshaw can do more than 26 Km/liter

    @RedBull_ar:
    Either our definitions of "polite driving" don't match or you need to get your car tuned. My car usually does 18-20 on highway.

    @hash4u
    Non Compos Mentis is a latin word for "mentally incompetent".

    I guess after reading my outrageous "26km/liter" claim you'll agree that the nick suits me

    When the guy pumped in 5.33 liters, I asked him to fill it up more. He said that there is no room left, I got out of the car and checked it myself.

    Anyway I've withdrawn my claim.

    Well as it turns out I was right, well in a sense I was right. Did the test again, drove very "politely". Never crossed hundred, no lugage, no passengers, kept RPM under 2.5. After 120 KMs the petrol added was 4.9 Liters only. (GT Road, Rwp - Mirpur)

    However on Motorway the car drank petrol 15 KM/ltr.

    I think the outrageous mileage with "polite" driving can be attributed to the PSO petrol pump in Mirpur. Maybe they are pumping in more Gas. So if you ever visit Mirpur don't forget to fill up your cars from the main PSO pump. Might as well bring 2,3 drums with you and fill them up as well.

    Btw with normal driving on highway the car does b/w 18-20 on highways.

    You can go to an ENERCON tuneup center. Ask them you want to check the mileage on your vehicle. They have a complete set of gadgets to get the job done and give you an accurate figure.

    Cheers
