Default Honda City vario 26+ KM/litre

I know this seems to be a tall claim, but it’s the truth.

    1. Filled the tank (max possible) from Caltex F-10 Islamabd.
    2. Drove to Mirpur and went straight to the petrol pump (141 Kms).
    3. Filled the tank (max possible)…. Only 5.33 Liters
    4. You do the maths…

I was a bit surprised myself. I have felt that the mileage of the car has improved with time, but I had not checked the mileage on the car for a long time since it runs over pretty short distances most of the time within Mirpur City (a small city).

I think my driving habits need a mention here as well. I don’t press the pedal to the floor. I let the car accelerate steadily. During my trip from Islamabad to Mirpur I kept within the speed limit (100 km/hr) for most of the time… occasionally going to 120 on few straight stretches of road.

well, this 26kms/ltr claim may sound unrealistic to most of you and you may have your doubts, but being the new owner of city 2006, 1300cc manual idsi, I too have something interesting to add. I drove all the way to hayatabad, Peshawar, from wah cantt, had some local driving within peshawar, and returned back with a milage driven of 304 kms. My tank was full 100% and I had ensured that there was no space left at first filling. I even circled the petrol pump twice, made a few hard brakes to make room for more fuel in the tank and then refilled it up to the throat several times, till it started dripping out.Same procedure was applied on return fron peshawar. would you believe me, it had only consumed 14.38 ltrs! mileage 304 kms! giving me an average of about 21.15 kms/ltr, believe it or not.Though less than 26, but still unbelievably remarkable. Any comments?

honda city idsi M/T petrol average just rocks on stock tyres...i just feel sorry for the people who insist on installing CNG on these vehicles, and totally destroy the cars driving pleasure..**sigh**

I drove my city iDSI 2006 with 100+ kms on the meter and it gave me 535kms ( mixed city and highway driving) with a refill of 32.2 lits.It makes 16+ kms per lit.I think its amazing for a brand new engine and I am looking forward for better consumption after 1000km tune up.Probably one additional advantage in city 2006 is the oxygen sensor in the exhaust port which might be contributing to a little better consumption.Besides driving style does matter.

You can calculate the milage on a car by filling it up and then driving for lets say around a 100km..for good sampling..then go back to the station and see how much gas it has consumed by refueling the tank. Simple and pretty accurate.

@NonComposMentis read your post now - It dates back to January so you must have drove all the way up to mirpur w/o AC.

Guys, I have driven to mirpur on a new idsi two weeks bk and the fact is that I thought that the fuel guage wasn't showing correct level of fuel. I went with full AC at 90-100 km/hr. (I filled the tank from the same CALTEX F-10 @NonComposMentis).

On reaching mirpur, the needle was just a little under F - Not much - Not even a quarter tank seemed used. I didnt get a refill at mirpur.

I had some business at pindi on my way back so I took the mall road. At Ayub park the fuel guage showed only one quarter was used.. I was fairly happy - Then I wasted 1.5 hrs of fuel in pindi (you can imagine) a Saturday 12 Am.

On reaching home the fuel guage still showed not half a tank but over (less than a quarter) though. Parked it - Didnt use it for 2 days. Third day went for a refill at the same CALTEX F-10 and to my horror they filled 999 Rs worth petrol in it which is about 18.6 liters. The odo meter showed 254 kms and my average appeared to be 13.65 which was a notch lesser than what I get with in city (I get 14+ here within Islamabad). I however look forward to my next trips to mirpur - especially in winters

    @waqarcheema
O bhai meray it was January last year (2006) and I had mentioned that it was without A/C, zero luggage, stock tyres no passengersm, kept RPM round about at 2500....

Anyway even if I did some miscalculations the mileage would have been at least 21...

khair I still have the car the mileage is still great. Have two more 2006 models (all varios) in Mirpur. But strangely the mileage of the 2004 model is better than that of 2006 models.

by the way, 2005 and 2007 idsi cars a bit different. Not just the shape but also the air in temperature optimization (at least claimed by Honda) - And probably an air cond compressor change.

All cars are maintained by the 3S Honda Mirpur dealer. So the air cleaner, plugs, oil etc. are same in all 3.

Maybe due to the deletion policy most of the parts in the newer model are locally made as compared to the older model.

Plus the change in shape and declining quality standards of Honda Pakistan in general may have played their part in reduced mileage in the newer models.

newer model with front face lift, has a little longer bonnet, radiator is at a lil more distance from engine block, becuase of the larger area, the fans ratate in opposite directions, and cooling is a little better on newer model, and economy claimed is a little higher on newer model aswell.

    ps
i hope my memory is not playing with me, i read the abv stuff when newer model was released
