Default ENGINE OIL CAPACITY IN TOYOTA ALTIS

Hi: I have a toyota altis 2007 manual model.

Evrytime I go to Toyota dealer for periodic maintenance, the advisor tells me that 5 litre oil needs to be changed. So they have to put 4litre + 1litre bottle.

I checked the owner manual now and found the capacity of engine 1ZZ-FE and 2NZ-FE is 3.7 litre (with filter) and 3.5 litre (without filter).

Now im curious, do they really put 5 litres in the engine? Is this a lack of knowledge on the dealers' part? or printing mistake in manual? or simply a scam?

According to the manual, the 2C engine (2.0D model) has 5.1 litre capacity.

    Would appreciate comments and advice.

Altis engine oil with filter is 5l.
This is very important in this 1.8l engine.

The engine has a 3.7 quart (3.5L) oil capacity

    Sirs

The figures quoted by Mr Levin are damn accurate.

Never owned a 1.8L Corolla in Pakistan, but canadian S corolla has the same 1zzfe under the hood.

On the other hand civic_90 is also an experienced person, and know local cars very well.

There seems to be something strange with local cars, even a 7th gen Canadian Accord with 2.4L K24A8 and 166BHP consumes no more then 4.4quarts (4.2L).

    Regards

@ Ghaxanfar, its an old thread, but just in case I will share my experience, I have a 2006 Altis and my handbook says 4.1l with filter. I have always used only 4 litres though, the dip stick always shows oil to the top level with it. My car has now done over 50k, have used n tried various oils, changing regularly at 5000km intervals with oil n filter both, so that makes it 10 changes so far and absolutely no problems what so ever.

My guess toyota people have been taking you for a ride. If you ask the workshop manager, you can go at the working area of toyota dealer and have a look yourself how they manage to put in 5 litres, when there is space for only 4.1 according to the book!

1 zz fe engine is same.

i never knew two variants of same engine code existed for diffirent countries.

    nah !! no way.

you put 3.5l in altis and check dipstick, it should be on F mark. overfilling will ruin sparkplugs and finally damage head gasket.

not to mention you ll be saying goodbye to oil pump soon.. thatmeans no oil flow in engine and a "dead" engine later
