Default My 2009 City is a fuel Guzzler for reasons unknown

I bought the 2009 City two months ago. So far, I have driven 1400Kms. I filled up the tank twice yet the consumption seems to be extremely poor. The weird thing is that I'm getting a reading of 17.3-19.7 Kms/litre yet the fuel gauge drops at quite a rapid pace. I'm driving by the book and do not exceed 2500 RPMs while changing gears and do not drive above 70 KPH. I went to Honda Classic on my first 1000 kms free check up. They refused to tune the car via their computer as they say they will not do it before its first oil change which is at 5000 kms. Even my old 86' Corolla fairs better than this new age vehicle. Can anyone help me out on this.

looks can be deceptive. It gives a reading of 19 km/L but the gauge drops like a brick. Something's seriously wrong don't you think? Either its the fuel gauge that is faulty or the mileage computer. The Honda guys are not that helpful in diagnosing my problem.

My usage is low. It'll take me some 4-5 months to accumulate 5000 kms. Are there any other Honda dealers in Islamabad? What about the pit stop in Abpara? Are they any good?

well since this is the first time i have read some body's post saying that this car has a bad milage makes me think that the guage might be faulty (i dont have this car). its easy to check the performance of the guage. let it drop to reserve level and then have your tank refilled to max, if the amount of petrol filled is some where around the max capacity of tank, then guage is ok and computer is faulty otherwise the vice versa.

    @secret
I'll have the gauge checked provided the people at Honda classic are helpful. I love this car. The acceleration, the sporty looks are some of the features that prompted me to own one. I simply love its drive. Is there any other Honda showroom or dealer in Islamabad other than Honda Classic?

2 full tanks and subsequent fillings to go with it. Yes that;s what I'm talking about. Reflashing the ECU. The Honda mechanics say they will have it tuned/reflashed on its first oil change. They say the vehicle consumption is a bit heavy when the engine is new.

As far as I remember, I filled up to 40 litres on delivery day and it did 443 kms. On second fill up the trip meter in addition to the previous distance covered read (without resetting) 889 k. Didn't notice the mileage on subsequent fill ups which were usually of 1000rs and 600rs and so on respectively.

It is the fuel mileage that is of concern to me. Other than that, there is no issue of poor pick up or knocking. Everything else is ok.

well i guess its doing 11 to 13km/liter.

according to me its decent mileage for driving in city.

on long it will give around 15 to 18 so its not heavy at all.

and stay away from workshops and works they will screw something else and things will be horrible.

and i suppose 86 was diesel so the theory is diesel gives more mileage then petrol.

one more thing. On my way from G-11 to Islamabad club this evening, the range dropped from 319 to 276. The fuel average showed 18.3 km/l whereas the distance covered was 14.8 kms. Had a tough drive back home due to unexpected fog with zero visibility at night.

There was little traffic and I was doing around 60-70 in 4th gear with an RPM of 2200. There was this instance when I had to use hard braking due to fog with the ABS coming into play. I must say the brakes on this vehicle are excellent.

Maybe you're right. I think its got to do with me being a bit too observant of the instrument cluster.

There is nothing wrong with the car, 11 to 13 kpl is the mileage you would get from it... The gauges which show the mileage and range are I guess a rough estimation and not the exact figures... So enjoy the ride tension free...

Thanks for the encouragement. Guess I was anticipating a bit too much. Let's wait for the first oil change. I'll have it changed at 3000 kms instead of 5000 kms just to be on the safer side.

Incase you weren't aware the trip computer recalibrates its readings after fillups and it takes about 6-10 fillups for it to become more acurate. Its an ECU based reading so its an estimate and does take time to become acurate.
