Default My 2009 City is a fuel Guzzler for reasons unknown

I bought the 2009 City two months ago. So far, I have driven 1400Kms. I filled up the tank twice yet the consumption seems to be extremely poor. The weird thing is that I'm getting a reading of 17.3-19.7 Kms/litre yet the fuel gauge drops at quite a rapid pace. I'm driving by the book and do not exceed 2500 RPMs while changing gears and do not drive above 70 KPH. I went to Honda Classic on my first 1000 kms free check up. They refused to tune the car via their computer as they say they will not do it before its first oil change which is at 5000 kms. Even my old 86' Corolla fairs better than this new age vehicle. Can anyone help me out on this.

could be a leakage in the fuel system,
btw first oil change is usually at 1000 km..
people who use Highbeams.. once day would suffer too bigtime. People who drive slow on fast lanes, remember one day a vehicle carryin ur son, dad might get late to hospital coz people like u. underaged driving will land u in bigtime trouble one day or the other.. And the Blue indication light on ur speedometer denotes "High Beams"

Agree with Cylestyne; calibration takes time and initially, the figures are not in par with real average. Second, as you mentioned 889 Km in about 80 L, the real average turns out to be around 11 which is a little low but I believe it's nothing to do with tuning whatsoever. Mine is now 5000 Km + and giving around 14-15 in city and 15-16 on highway (not much difference, hmm). It was initially around 12 in city. So the average should improve with time.

thats the limit 13 km/lit in the city - gun it - the ECU will relearn a new fuelling curve and adjust accordingly - AND it may also be possible that the Honda guys screwed up the mixture pot they put instead of an oxygen sensor

I again went to Honda Classic, this time with a friend of mine who works in the ministry of industries and production (sadly this is how things work in pakistan). The technician plugged a few wires into the vehicle to link up with a computer . Don't have a clue what he did but now everything seems to be perfect and the fuel consumption has improved and is not dropping as it was previously doing. He admitted that some of the settings were out of sync and had re-adjusted them. Fuel was low, filled up 10 litres only and am now getting 18.3 Kms/L at a speed of 65-70 in fourth gear. Pick up has also improved somewhat. The car feels lighter and nippy.

The manual says the first oil change is at 5000 kms. The company, too, recommends the same.

Its not a 200 cc scooter dude, it cannot give you 20 - 25 kms / liter, anything over 10 kms a liter is good enough for a 1300cc car while in city driving, out on the highway, 15 - 16 maybe 18 thats it.

Due that's what you think. I've driven 63 kms today with a minute drop of fuel level as compared to the free fall I was having before tuning. I'm getting 18 km/l. It's either my eyesight or the computer maybe faulty. I always keep a light foot on the pedal and it really does give excellent mileage. I drive early in the morning (at around 7) from my home and the traffic is relatively low thus experiencing lesser stops and a continued drive. That maybe the reason of enhanced mileage.

That intimidation factor on the Honda staff worked wonders for me. After having the vehicle tuned I managed to cover 173.7 kms in total since yesterday in approximately 10-11 litres (considering a 1-2 litre reserve in the tank). Refilled 30 litres tonight. This is a wonderful car. Brilliant pick up and mileage. If you're prepared to be patient and drive by the book it has the potential of giving you great mileage. I plan to travel to Talagang this Sunday via motorway. Will post my findings in a new thread. Consider this topic closed. Thanks for the advice folks. Appreciate every bit of it.

your fuel costs depend heavily on the right foot and how much you use the "THANDI MACHINE" in your car.. and most heavily on how the engine was broken in when new - I lug a new engine to about 80% of its max engine speed and let it overrun to idle to properly seat the rings...
