Default Honda City Steermatic 2006 - Some Queries

    Guys,

After a lot of searching, I have finally bought a Honda City Steermatic 2006. I was looking for a 2007 model but couldn't find a clean 2007 one as quickly as I would have liked. This one is black in color and has 55k on the odometer. A few modifications are there like fog lights, mirror indicator lamps and all.

    I have a few questions.

The owner of the vehicle just changed the stock 185/55 R15s to 195/60 R15s. He did not change the rims. I was wondering what kinda effect this change might have on the drive. Please, can anybody tell me if these tires are fit to use on the Steermatic suspension?

Also, on D mode, when the car picks up, a little wobble can be felt when the car is doing between 20kmph and 30kmph. It goes away after that and there is no such feeling on higher speeds. Since the tires are relatively new, I am suspecting this has to do with the alignment and will get that checked in a couple of days, but is there a possibility that it could be because of something else?

Also, the brakes are making noises and are pretty loose and of course I miss ABS. Is this because of the pads or the discs needing replacement? How much will this approximately cost?

Please also help me regarding the maintenance. The previous owner claimed that he had done all maintenance with Honda and all oils (engine/transmission) have just been changed. But is this a good idea to go ahead and change all oils, do a complete service to be sure? Also, where can I find some good mechanic for the Steermatic and its Tiptronic transmission in Karachi apart from Honda (it's good to have options)?

I'll be posting pics of the ride in this thread soon.

Looking forward to your help, specially from Steermatic lovers like @accord7362 and @vazim.

    Thanks,

Just take it to any Honda dealership and have them perform a general checkup on the car which would cost PKR 300. They will let you know what stuff needs replacement etc. Brake discs and pads would definitely have to be changed (if the previous owner did not get them changed at the mandated 40k-50k mileage). Also get the suspension checked as bushings may need replacement. To be on the safe side, do change all the fluids. Will cost max 5-6k but you will have peace of mind. As far as the triptronic transmission is concerned, I wouldn't trust anyone else other than Honda dealerships

    Thanks,
Is it wobbling or a vibration? Also pay attention and let us know whether it is coming from the front left or front

Thanks a lot for the reply, mani. What about the tires? Are they good to use with Steermatic's suspension?

Tires are okay. Just get balancing and wheel alignment done perhaps that will resolve the issue. No need to change the rims. The stock ones are good. It will be better to change the brake shoes and disc pads and the fluids as well. Enjoy the ride bro and look forward to see the pics

well 3% variation from the stock tyre size is permissible, and changing from 185/55 to 195/60 is 5.2% difference...i guess 195/55 wudve been a way better option. check it out from this site...regards

Looking forward to your help, specially from Steermatic lovers like @accord7362 and @vazim.

@idealali thanks for the words above & many congratzz for the purchase of steermatic, do give sadqa & enjoy urself

as your ride has above 40k driven make sure with previous owner that it was properly serviced @40K which include

1------get the tappets adjusted if needed
    2-----throttle body cleaned
    3------ automatic transmission fluid (changed)
    4-------spark plug (changed)
    5--------oil & oil filter (changed)
    6--------brake fluid (inspect before changed)
    7---------fuel filter(changed)
8--------- alignment , balancing & sweeping of the tires.

I am assuming you checked the sensors before purchase

If in any doubt, yes get your car inspected from Honda and replace all the above mentioned things to bring the log book under your belt.

You are requested to refer to the Maintenance Schedule (Page no: 121) provided in the Owner’s Manual of your car.

& for tires Stock is the best & after that @waleed80 is rite

Thanks a lot for the kind help, waleed and accord. What do you guys suggest regarding the wheels? Should I get them replaced to stock size right now or wait for these to wear out? Please note that the wheels are almost new, only driven like 5k kilometers.

@idealali, many congratulations on the purchase of a unique machine. The tire size is ideal given the bumpy roads of khi. The original bridgestone potenza re030 sized 185/55/R15 were too choppy and i also had to change them to get a slightly cushier ride.

The slight wobble that you have mentioned in D. if it's coming on hard acceleration from stand-still then you only need to change the cvt transmission fluid. This will solve your problem inshallah

@moizhusain: Thanks a lot for you comment. This is what I suspected.

The wobble is indeed when the car starts accelerating and goes away later. I got my wheels balanced and aligned today. The drive is much smoother now. But that little wobble can still be felt if one tries to feel it. I'll get the fluid changed tomorrow and share the findings here.

I have another question. The car accelerates itself (when I remove my foot from the brake) better when in reverse mode (R) than when it's in drive mode (D). The difference is quiet noticable and you could actually feel it. It's really slow to pick in the D mode automatically and rather more than quick in R. I haven't ever owned an auto tranny before but this doesn't make sense. It should rather be quick in D and slow in R, naheen or at least the two rates should be equal? What do you guys say, is this normal? If it's not, what could be done to rectify it and where could the problem lie?

Also, I refueled today and the mileage I got was not impressive, 9+ km/l. VTec should be giving a better average, no? Granted that I pushed the car a little since I wanted to check how much it can do but still. I'll be changing the oil and the filter this weekend. Is there anything else that I should be giving thought to regarding this or is this the average I should expect?

By the way, thanks a lot for all the help so far guys. It's been exceptional. The Pakwheels community is really a big help for amateur drivers like me.
