Thread: City idsi - Stalling at low RPMs

    Default City idsi - Stalling at low RPMs

    Hey All,

    Here are the symptoms :

    When you move your car from static, in the first gear, it stalls and the RPM drops. (the RPM is dead stable at 900 otherwise)

    In any gear, including the first and second, the car seems powerless untill it reaches 2500 RPM, it feels like it is suffocated. It accelerates, but very slowly, though the engine produces a lot of sound. As soon as it crosses 2500 RPM, it gets a kick and the acceleration becomes perfect, as if it is no more struggling for air.

    The fuel economy has dropped immensely. It used to give 19-20km per liter on highways which is down to 8-10 km per liter.

    Here's what has already been done :

    -Tunned (over a dozen times)
    -Replaced clutch pressure plate
    -Replaced Fuel pump
    -Replaced Fuel Filter

    Did you check the catalytic converter that can be choked and mostly cars are a bit slow under 2500rpm but as you described it your's is dead

    Which year and how many miles are on it?

    Main issues could be too rich, air restriction, bad ignition advance etc, but I can refine this with more information.

    1- What's cat convertor called in desi colloquial?
    2- What will be the effect on sound after removing the cat convertor? I mean will it increase immensely?

    Its a 2004 model and has done around 95k. some times it suffers from bad ignition ie. you need to press the throttle while ignition..

    catalytic converter is chocked.
    get it removed if u drive on cng. get it replaced if u drive on petrol.

    and if u dont like the heavy sound, get a small silencer fitted in that portion
    Life is short and very unpredictable just like a Quarter mile .....

    The car is totally petrol driven, can we still just remove it? Or is it necessary to have it for all petrol driven cars?

    Just got the silencer checked.

    The catalytic converter has already been removed. It was removed by the last owner about 3 years ago.

    Anyhow, it ran absolutely fine until last month.

    Is the tailpipe sooty and black? Is there black smoke at startup and while accelerating? (This may be observed by someone driving behind you while you drive your car.)

    Can you please describe details of what was done at the last "tune-up" ?

    The silencer is absolutely clean, no soot, not black, no black smoke at start up at all.

    There have been a number of last tune ups since this problem arose. In the most recent one, oil filter was changed, air filter was changed, tappets were adjusted, throttle body was serviced - that's it. It didn't make any difference though.

    sounds like a timing issue or possible an ignition issues, get the ecu reset and get the timing checked.

    i doubt the 2004 ones had a Cat convertor, 2006 onwards City cars came with euro 3 emission standards.
    Get over the fact that Xli lacks power windows, Its an Xli because it lacks thoose features or else it would be a Gli or an Altis if had all the goodies.
