i have a city 2010 and i have never heard the petrol noise. I'm a hard driver and drive the car more than 50km a day. My experience with this car is excellent.
Make sure there is no water bottle in the trunk :).
Good luck with ur car.

a car that is according to requirements and driving style and personal choice of a driver is good for him. i am happy with my city. i have never driven new corolla. but still only driving a car alone doesnot enable us to rate that car. so please no corolla honda city old new etc war
i had knocking issue but changing from total to PSO solved my issue. no knocking now.yes suspension is hard but i like them being hard.and noise, what can i say. .. . we have to tradeoff many things
Heard this for the first time.
I have 2005 city. Never heard such sound even though I'm a very aggressive driver. Nor any of my friends who own City raised this problem.
I fully agree with your self diagnosed problem. I also notice it sometimes when I reverse the car on a slope.
Its definitely the sound of splashing fuel in the tank.
