Default Query about Honda City i-DSI

    Salam PWers!
My query is regarding an unusual engine noise that comes while the engine is idling. It's a crackling/'kir kir' noise. The car in question is a 2003 Honda City which is driven 30K and never been to any workshop for any sort of tune-up. It has been garaged for a while now. Only regular maintenance was done for 5K, 10K and 20K check-ups.
Does this engine have any tappets that require some sort of adjustment? If so, could it be there noise? The noise is very prominent and tends to amplify greatly when parked near a wall.
Also, i feel that there is some leakage in the exhaust assembly as the engine tends to get very noisy when cruising above 100kph. How to properly identify the problem? the morons at Honda workshops suggested to replace the entire exhaust assembly and desi exhaust mechanic is unable to identify the leakage. An unusual knocking can also be felt while flooring the car but that knocking noise goes away when the rpm stabilizes.

Any suggestions, help and remedies will be deeply appreciated.

    Regards,
    Faizan.

yup... the kir kir sound on idle must be the tappets asking for an adjustment
the kir kir sound while driving would be knocking, if u are driving on petrol.
as for engine getting noisy at above 100kmph, there can be many reasons.if u think its the exhaust, park the car over a pit or simple jack it up from one side, ask someone to sit inside and rev the engine while u try to hear if the exhaust is leaking from anywhere.
btw, at just 30,000kms there it is very hard to believe that there wud be a problem with the exhaust.try to explain what kind of sound it is, it can be sound of a wheel bearing or tyres themselves, may be timing belt bearing too.

The tyres are brand new yokohama c-drives, it's hard to believe tht they will have such a road noise.
If it was wheel bearing the noise would have been noticeable at lower speeds, correct me if i am wrong here.
The exhaust assembly has been bumped a few times by the speed breakers and the ramp of my garage, so my guess is that it has been ruptured.
The car is driven entirely on hi-octane and petrol. No CNG. I always use 1/3 of octane. Maybe the engine knocking is due to maladjustment of the tappets?
At 100kph, the noise varies as the the throttle is floored while keeping the speed the roughly constant, hence my deduction dictates it to be engine noise because of a leakage in the exhaust assembly.
How to properly identify if the problem is of the wheel bearing?

Looking for some more suggestions from the experts.

At 20K i did go to Honda Fort, they said that the car's tappets don't need any adjustment. They only replaced the plugs. Since then, the car was garaged for almost 3 years. Only used for out of city trips. It's now that i have noticed this crackling noise.
My experience with Honda Fort has not been good. They treated me well whenever i had a 'danda', but when that 'danda' they went back to being morons. They were unable to properly rectify some suspension problems in my friend's 2010 City which was under warranty.
