My query is regarding an unusual engine noise that comes while the engine is idling. It's a crackling/'kir kir' noise. The car in question is a 2003 Honda City which is driven 30K and never been to any workshop for any sort of tune-up. It has been garaged for a while now. Only regular maintenance was done for 5K, 10K and 20K check-ups.
Does this engine have any tappets that require some sort of adjustment? If so, could it be there noise? The noise is very prominent and tends to amplify greatly when parked near a wall.
Also, i feel that there is some leakage in the exhaust assembly as the engine tends to get very noisy when cruising above 100kph. How to properly identify the problem? the morons at Honda workshops suggested to replace the entire exhaust assembly and desi exhaust mechanic is unable to identify the leakage. An unusual knocking can also be felt while flooring the car but that knocking noise goes away when the rpm stabilizes.
Any suggestions, help and remedies will be deeply appreciated.
