Thumbs down Honda City 2010 ~ 2011 Pick & Knocking Issue

    AOA
    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>
Am Usman from Faisalabad , I bought Brand New Honda City in December 2010 , previously I was using Toyota Corolla XLI ( 2007) .<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Honda City is my first entry to Honda Cars , at 400km I complained Honda Faisalabad about knocking of my car in low speed specially in gear 1 & 2 while AC on.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Service team at Honda just beat about the bush and advised me to keep using the car it is normal. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
I have been to Murree and cannot explain my worst experience , too much knocking in Gear No-2 , car loose power & pick in gear 2.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Fuel average 11.7km / ltr on motorway with AC on , without AC it did 13KM. Within City drive 7~8km / ltr. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
While AC on I felt I am driving Suzuki Cultus. My FAMILY also noticed AC not cooling as much for back seats as Toyota did . <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
2nd gear of Honda City is just disgusting and it can cause accident.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Sudden loss of pick & power especially while car comes in lower gear 2 from higher gear 4 and vise versa.
    <o:p></o:p>
I used engine oils like , MOBIL 1 , HONDA Fully Synthetic but issue remained the same.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Tried fuel from various pumps and also used HI-OCTANE from TOTAL . <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
    Mobil-1 & High Octane 30% resolved my issue . <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
I am disappointed from Honda Service Team whenever i told them about my issue they said car is normal and live with it , Kindly advise any solution otherwise I have made up my mind to sale it & shift back to Toyota.

    regards
    USMAN <o:p></o:p>

[QUOTE=ahmadbila;2832952]i dont know any areas in faislabad but a friend says that even the regular fuel of one petrol pump is very very good.its near mediacon trade centre, on the road to its right.
and hi octane can be found at pso on canal road.[/QUOTE

Infront of Mediacom is Caltex Pump and they said they have never stock Hi-Octane , as told before Cananl Road PSO pump also dont stock Hi-Octane .

The car is on sale on Pakwheels or any showroom at Faisalabad?
Whats your demand and car details?
Post an ad on pakwheels buyer/sellers section, you may get a potential buyer.

Usman, the worthy forum members are suggesting various solutions in good faith, perhaps assuming that this problem is specific to your car. Let me tell you what happened to me.

I live in Islamabad. I bought a new honda city in May 2011. From the very first day, I realized the powerlessness of gear 2 but taking it lightly I did not panick. Last week, I went to Murree along with my family and driving my new honda city there was a nightmare. Gear 2 was absolutely powerless, and I had to use Gear 1 all the way up. Even the Gear 1 became powerless when it came to climbing a steep road to the rest house where we had booked room. The car refused to go up and we were there in the middle of road all confused and embarrassed. I called Honda Classic in I-10 but it was wastage of time talking to them on phone. I had to park my car on roadside there, and during the rest of our 3 days stay we had to use taxi. All this spoiled our vacations, thanks to Honda City.

On Friday, 17 June (yesterday) I visited honda classic and explained to them everything, but again they were not able to offer any help or suggestion except cleaning the plugs. I told their engineer Rizwan and Khurram that I am ready to return my car to honda atlas even if it causes a loss of one or two hundred thousands. I then called honda atlas, lahore and a lady named Bushra assured me that honda engineer will soon contact me, but so far I have not received any call from them.

Today, I had to use my 2006 Cultus to go to Pir Sohawa, because my new honda city which has done just 1500 KMs cannot go to Daman-e-Koh, I bet, what to talk about Pir Sohawa. I offer my car to Honda engineers as a gift with extra cash prizes if they drive my honda city up to Daman-e-Koh in whatever gears they like. I bet one million against one rupee that the car cannot go to Daman-e-Koh.

Now coming back to the problem; the only reason for this problem is some sort of a major manufacturing fault, and absolutely nothing else. Honda Atlas is turning a deaf ear to consumers complaints considering it a problem with a few indidual units, but they are wrong. Honda Atlas is soon going to pay a big price for this. I am telling you that it is a matter of just a few more months, and nobody in Pakistan will be willing to buy Honda City. If the Honda Atlas does not fix problem in my car till end of next week or give me a new replacement that does not have this problem, I am going to go to a court of law to sue Honda for giving me a defective car while I paid full price of a new car in running condition. Let us join hands and do whatever is needed to force Honda Atlas to turn a heed to our problem. Even if the courts do not redress our problem for one reason or the other, we should spread a word through internet and media, so that we at least save those who plan to book Honda City in near future.

I forgot to mention that while in the Honda Classic workshop yesterday I happened to talk to a few other owners of Honda Cities. A gentleman from Shaheen Foundation, who was justifiably very very angry, also had very serious complaint of powerlessness. Another gentleman also mentioned that he has the same problem with his new honda city.

Very poor customer support and service shown by Honda.Very surprised from it.They have been ignoring pakistani customers otherwise there sales would have been very good.
@hondaowners go to consumer court or send a email with dhamki to Atlas or directly to Honda Japan

    @qadarkhan

I am extremely surprised at what experiences you have shared......I have had owned this car and drove it around 35000 kms during 2009-2010. 2nd gear problem is there but I never faced anything like what has been narrated on this forum.....I used to fill 30% Hi-Octane and that was it......I went several times to Pirsohawa and mostly drove in 2nd-3rd gear.......I vividly remember that on three-to-four sharp corners I needed to go down to 1st gear......

My fuel average was also always between 13-14 within Islamabad.....and on Motorway between 14-15.....

I am puzzled......may be you should have not pushed your car to max so early in its break-in period?...

@rjs i think the problem with some manufactured units may be of year 2010 or after that.SO this is manufacturing defect.

Yehhh Cheez ........Really impressed after reading your detailed clarifying views. I also talked with Honda Atlas , their service manager refered me as well to Miss Bushra and she noted my complain and assured prompt response. One week gone no response !

if we dont get appropriate service from Honda we should definately sue them . i suggest lets report to media and highlight bigest consumer crime happening in Pakistan .

Bhai JAAN every body says 30% HI-OCTANE , 50% HI-OCTANE , maree jaan i will go for 100% HI-OCTANE , BUT please tell me , guide me where is HI-OCTANE available in Faisalabad or on Motor ways or in Murree? If in lahore or islamabad only then may i consider this car not suitable for faisalabad or areas without hi-octane? Let me tell you Hi-Octane fuel is also getting rare in lahore . The nation is without regular fuel and you people keep on insisting HI-OCTANE .

    Where is HI-OCTANE ?

@OP sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Seems like bad copy case solely related to quality control issues. I own a city 2010 and I am very very satisfied with the pick in all gears, also my friends just rave about it. However, one of my friend has a 2009 model city and it has bad pick and knocking issues right from very start. This problem is reportedly fixable by a quick ECU firmware update that optimizes the unit to locally available petrol RON value. While this update is not necessary for 2010 or newer models but you still might wanna get it checked.

P.S. high octane or regular, i don't feel any difference in pick. both do that job just fine for me.

I am really surprised to find so many City owners complaiing about the pick problem in 2nd gear and inability of the car to negotiate steep climbs. I own a Jun 2010 Auto City and I can assure u that atleast I have not observed any such issues. The moment I floor the paddle, it accelerates in a powerful manner no matter u are under 20 kmph or faster. I have not used hi octain at all and have never faced problems of powerloss on Margalla hills.
Now talking about manual city: My some freinds do have that and they never complained this problem. The only possibility I am considering is the gear ratios for manual City, which may have been designed for 1.5 L version and are sort of misfit in 1.3L engine coupled with fuel issues. As such there should be no problems with regards to engine since it is same in both manual and auto versions.
Any anyone explain it any further.

StarTec/Usman: I'll try once more tomorrow morning to speak to some senior person there at Honda Atlas, followed by an email and a registered letter from my side conveying my grievance. I am sure, there will be no response, but I need to do this formality to make my case stronger as I have a firm plan to file a suit against them in a court of appropriate jurisdiction at an appropriate time, after I exhaust whatever options available to me. If three to four consumers across Pakistan file suits against them at different locations, supported by a campaign on internet and possibly on television channels (but commercially speaking, these channels will side with Honda for very obvious reason) the car manufacturer will come to terms with its consumers. Sometime back, I heard of a consumer protection forum run by an NGO; I will try to consult them as well early next week. In fact, the consumers in the US as well as other developed countries are well aware of their rights and strength. Moreover, the regulatory regime over there strongly supports the consumer, and not the manufacturer. Unfortunately, we as consumers here are not aware of our rights and governmental regulatory body for automobiles is either non-existent or if it does it is least bothered. This is the reason that Toyota or any other manufacturer who wants to stay on in the market would compensate consumers in USA without a demand and contrarily will give two hoots to consumers in Pakistan, no matter how strongly they protest. Having said this, I would like to make it clear that I will go to any extent, within the legal parameters, to get my grievance as a consumer fully addressed, and will not sit back till the end no matter what it takes.

@qadarkhan very true sir.I think all those people who own cities and experiencing this problem should go to consumer court. And as far as i think the message already been spread and spreading that Honda Pakistan has nothing to do with customers they just wana sale.

Another suggestion is play on internet if honda pakistan is not listening go to some international honda customer services and complaint about the honda and than there islamabad or faisalabad outlets and do mention there names.

Honda Customer Service can now be reached via Twitter at: @HondaCustSvc

hmm well if youre thinking of filing a case maybe you should do it collectively not separately, so that all of you can join in to become one party instead of having 100s of cases waiting for separate decisions.
if youre serious about it then start a campain bring as many people together as you can.you might need to consult a lawyer because if youre trying to sell your vehicle then im not sure if honda or the courts can have it inspected?
i bought the honda city and civic this year the build quality is extrememly poor, however regarding this particular problem i do think that hioctane fuel solved the problem of the pick..therefore the knocking and pick issue, to my mind is because of the poor quality fuel that is sold rather then honda being at fault.however i still think that the product is not worth the price that i payed for and something should be done about it.a media campain is a better option if it doesnt work then you can think of going to court..
its good that someone is trying to take a stand atleast.....

I can feel the pain of those who are complaining... i have similar problems on my city 2011 which i bought on June 09, 2011... the car does not move on 2nd or 3rd gear and reacts with a delay but the acceleration is there...Cultus on CNG beats my 1300 Honda City...

As a person working in the corporate sector for a decade let me assure you that HONDA Pakistan will NOT do anything to satisfy their customers... they received your money even before they put the first part of your car on the assembly line...

the only way i can think of is contacting media and holding a small congregation of City owners who have similar problems and communicate our needs and requirements clearly... we can use print also but all these require contacts in the media (news channels) who are kind enough to give some time to voice our concerns...

Just a thought! and I empathise with all those who are suffering from this non-professional attitude of Honda

I am sure that Honda will take the same stance as plague27 states... they can easily shift the blame to the low quality fuel and that their engine is tested in international markets etc etc... they should be cornered in another way!
